... or maybe not, at least by MDS standards. Or perhaps the "bad thing" was in the same style as going grocery shopping on an empty stomach. So, maybe "bad idea"...

I have no measurable patience. Never have. Doubt I ever will. "Instant gratification" may as well be my middle name. So, what to do while I wait for my HQL to arrive? The obvious answer is to visit every gun store I can find to in search of the best price and best customer service for when I can finally get my grubby mitts on a Ruger SR9. Oh, the Ruger SR9...

There's a downside to this, which is seeing all sorts of other, equally drool-worthy firearms. And some of these are cash-and-carry. Bad ideas form. And then I do a bad thing. While shopping for my SR9, I bought an AR-15. I thought about building one, but I found one that's "the one I would build", and for less money than it would cost to build. So, in the spirit of "pics or it didn't happen", here's my new Windham WW-15 HBC, upgraded with a Magpul ACS-L stock. My first firearm, bought from the exceptional folks at Engage Armament.

I seem to recall reading on another thread that there's a requirement of some token of personalization of the pic. Please note my sock-clad foot at the bottom of the pic, which I believe was listed as an example of a qualifying personal touch.

Tomorrow I will be taking it to MSAR to officially christen it.

Good job James! You even got your foot in the picture. You'll fit in here just fine. Now go to the range, and don't forget to field strip her, before hand. The bolts on these love to be oiled up.

I cleaned and oiled the barrel, per the manual. The manual didn't say anything about the bolt, but it seemed like a good thing to clean and oil while it had it out anyway.

    That's a beautiful AK47 with a double barrel shroud....:innocent0

I would like very much to think I'd know the difference... I'd like to think that! :o

But if I found a nice AK47 at a reputable Maryland dealer who wants to tell me it's legal in Maryland, who am I to argue? :D

Nice AR....but beware! Any gun store trip that carries AR accessories is now dangerous territory...oh and the fact that it looks so lonely all by itself in the safe:innocent0

No, you didn't do a bad thing. You can never have too many of Sen. Frankenfeinstein's favorites.

I won't say I bought it to piss off the jerks who want to curtail our 2A rights, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a perk. :)

Christmas is coming, and my parents and in-laws finally know what to get me. :D My wife wants to avoid encouraging me, but that's a problem with all of my hobbies.

If I was in the market for an AR that would be the one.

AR's is a habitual event. You start with buying one, then you mod it. Then you buy a second up stay stock because the original was modded. Then you mod the second. Then you build one from pre made receivers. Then you build from scratch. Then you build atypical caliber AR's. Then you are messing with 80% systems.

    Its a wonderful cycle.

Now you need to make a road trip to a neighboring state to load up on standard magazines.

I hear there's a gun show coming up in Chantilly or thereabouts. I was planning to pick some up there. The standard, as I understand, is 30 rounds. Are there other popular magazine types/sizes to look out for?
