Call will come from (256) 770-????, they will leave a message if you don't answer. That adds time, if they don't hear from you then the e-mail goes out an the 5 days start. Everybody should track the numbers on the CMP forums.

    https://forums.thecmp.org/forumdisplay.php?f=110

As for why I picked Field over Service? Easy, I didn't want a heavy parkerized 1911 with a TZ slide. Service goes by looks. I read the 1911 forums from the first round. Some people are pissed that the Fields are better pistols. They all are mix masters. An I never was issued a pretty 1911A1 by Uncle Sugar. I carried a 1911/A1 for a long time as a 95B. The M9 replaced her in Sep 1990, because 45ACP wasn't available in the Desert (BS Tankers still had M3 Grease Guns!!!).

    Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Now I have some thinking to do.You have me leaning toward Field grade (and with the $100 I save I can buy a box of ammo, if I can find it!)

Anybody waiting on CMP 1911s might want to go ahead and start looking for mags. When they start shipping the 1911s, decent mags may be unobtanium for a while from the spike in demand.

USGI mags are all over the place. Yes, fakes are out there. Checkmate was the last USGI maker an had a contract for the USMC re-issues. Then you have shooting Star, Willson 47 an others.

It will take two years for round 2 to finish. Then round 3 an 4 .........

If you to the North or South store you can by USGI cheap. But the drive is a b##h.

In other good news CMP has lifted the two Garand limit a year. It's back to eight M1's a year:D

Got my call today at 9:55AM EST 9APR. Picked Field Grade (all three still available) an asked not to have a heavy parked one. Others 200 ahead of me where called 8Apr. Seems CMP has 7 phone lines. An whoever is working gets a stack. My caller said. "she does 25-35 a day". They close at 3:30PM EST M-F.

I'll post pics when it shows up.

Thanks for the early scouting report ! And thank you so much for your service to our country.

Looking forward to seeing what you receive !

When it comes to FFL info what are they looking for ? Contact info or do they want a certificate?

FFL has to e-mail or FAX it to CMP. I had it set up with the e-mail listed in the packet. Then the caller, Monique, said no have it sent to her e-mail. As it would be faster. The bad is they close at 3:30 PM EST. I couldn't get it sent till 4:30. But Monique e-mailed me Monday that has got the FFL.

If you get a call from Anniston, AL (256) 770-xxxx (phone bank so last four could be one of seven lines) ANSWER YOUR PHONE!!!

    Fax number is: (256)-835-2354

Two more round 2 service grades posted:

I ordered a Field an will post pics when my FFL gets it.

My field grade is in FFL jail. Frame is a 1943 Colt an the slide is a Remington Rand. I asked for one not heavenly parked an no TZ slide. More finish (parkerizing) then I wanted but I’ll keep her. I’ll post better pics when I get her home. Looks like she went to stores after the last 1980 rebuild. She is dry an needs an oil bath bad.

Looks good! I know you didn’t want the TZ slide and so it’s cool they were able to make that happen !

Compared to this Service grade (TZ replacement slide ).

I posted my Field but here is another nice Field.

So start thinking what you want when CMP calls. Yes, CMP is a crapshoot. You could really luck out.

Only thing I haven't seen yet is a Rack grade. But in Round 1 some Racks where diamonds with worn finishes.

    Good luck!

    PS:

Any an all the sh#t talkers saying these 1911's are over priced an mix-masters. Please show me where I can buy a USGI 1911A1 cheaper with paperwork proving it came from the Gov. The $89 1911's ended in the 60's. $500 ones in the 90's. Now, dealers are getting under 2K for pitted, blasted mix masters with restamped property marks.

In two-three years it'll be round three if the laws don't change. If the laws change then it's Cpt Crunch again:mad54:.

    Good luck!

Does anyone know if any 1911s, vs 1911A1s, have been shipped, or have they all gone to auction?

I’ve looked through a bunch of pages of pics from round 1 on the CMP forum....believe there were a decent number of early (1911) guns that shipped out via the regular RGN process, but all I saw had still been through at least one rebuild and were a mix of 1911/1911A1 parts. Seems recently a lot of the earlier guns have gone to auction though.

But even those that go to auction have been refurb'd, right?
I recall the Rem-UMC in the first round that folks were all gaga about, with a parked finish and incorrect parts that auctioned for big bucks.

I’ll admit I haven’t watched the auctions that closely but I don’t recall seeing any that were 100% as-issued. Decent number have come through the auction and RGN process with original finish, but they do still all seem to have been through a rebuild given the mixture of parts.

Like anything CMP these pistols bring more $ on the secondary market than what CMP charges so it seems you really can’t lose money (even the guns with the post-war USGI replacement slides still seem to bring $1200+ on the secondary market). I picked up a nice service grade from round 1 from someone who had been expecting a pristine WWI 1911, and I put in for one of my own in round 2. I’ll probably keep the nicer of the two and use the other as trade fodder down the road.

I'd rather see what I'm buying first, but like you said I don't think you can go wrong no matter what you get. If I did the CMP thing I believe I'd ask for a Rack Grade. I can always fix broken/missing parts, and those seem to be the most "original" with the been-there, done-that look rather than fresh park'd finish etc.

My number came up this past week...asked for a service grade and requested frame/slide of the same maker if possible. Received a 1945 Remington Rand frame and Remington Rand slide. Looks like everything on it is RR except the ‘84 dated USGI replacement barrel. Seems like it was put into storage right after the last rebuild. Park thankfully isn’t the silvery zinc stuff, but it’s extremely dry and has been soaking up oil all day. Overall I’m happy and it should make a good range gun.
