    Hello,

I'm sure these questions come up quite often but I just want to make sure I have all the correct information.

I just purchased a semi-automatic Sig Sauer P229 Legion handgun with 15-round magazines.

    • From what I understand Its legal for me to move to MD and bring my gun with me? I just have to register it within 90days?
    • When I'm transporting my gun into the state I just need to have the gun and ammo in different places in my vehicle so its not accessible to driver or passenger?
    • Is there any limit to how many handguns I can bring with me? I'm considering buying another handgun before I move to MD.
    • My wife is active duty military for the DOD .. she is buying a handgun do the same rules apply to her?

    Thanks!

    • Yes, OK to bring it with you, and unless you are changing your state of residence to Maryland, you do NOT need to register them. Keep your dependa card handy at all times though.

[*]When I'm transporting my gun into the state I just need to have the gun and ammo in different places in my vehicle so its not accessible to driver or passenger?

      Yep.

[*]Is there any limit to how many handguns I can bring with me? I'm considering buying another handgun before I move to MD.

Nope, buy all you want in free America before you transfer here.

[*]My wife is active duty military for the DOD .. she is buying a handgun do the same rules apply to her?

      Same answers above apply.

You are quite welcome, you might want to do an intro in the intro forums since you will be here for a while.

It's a good idea to buy magazines before you come here, because you can't buy mags over ten rounds in state, or otherwise transfer ownership of them within the state. Perfectly legal to make the one hour drive to a neighboring state, buy standard capacity magazines for your own use, and bring them back. You can't pick up a couple for me, though. Plus-ten round mags may not change owners within Maryland.

Likewise, if you want to buy a handgun that comes with magazines holding more than ten rounds you should definitely buy it before you come here. That way you can get the standard mags that come with it, instead of the reduced capacity mags mandated by law.

Also, to buy a non-C&R handgun here, you'll need to get the Handgun Qualification License (HQL). This is a new thing since 2013, and many of us still haven't gotten one. It is only needed to buy or take possession of non-C&R handguns. It is not required to own or use them. You need to be fingerprinted and wait through the 7 day background check to get the HQL. Of course there are fees, but you would be exempt from the training component because you already own a handgun. Still, it's a vicious Infringement, whose only purpose is indeed to Infringe, so yes, buy as many handguns as you can before you come here.

No, she does not have to change her residency, and does not have to register anything unless she does so. Any she would have to have residency in really HORRIBLE state ot MD to be better. :D

As a spouse, the same may apply to you.
