I do not live in Anne Arundel, I live in Carroll County, but I had a chance to meet Joe and hear him speak at a presentation in Westminster by the Institute on the Constitution, and was very favorably impressed. FWIW, I strongly second the recommendation.

He testified for the Assault Weapons ban. Here is a post from a previous thread.

I had a semi-private (others were present) conversation with Anne Arundel County Sheriff Bateman a couple days ago. He volunteered that he supports the 2nd Amendment but that he also supports an assault weapons ban. He said, "I don't think people should be allowed to run around with AK-47s."

After I confronted him on his political double-speak, he ended the conversation with, "We will just have to agree to disagree."

Well, my phone rings this evening, and it' "Sheriff Joe".

"I'm out front, and have your sign."

Cool. So, I head out and we get to chatting.

One thing I did find interesting, is that Bateman seems to feel the need to take out ads in "reddish" neighborhood publications now.

    Precautionary? Defensive?

Don't know, but I'd be interested in anything folks are coming across.

That is deeply concerning. Anne Arundel is very conservative and we are lined up to have som great reps after November. However, if we have an anti 2a, Sherrif and a rabid anti gun, anti self defense anti common sense anti castle doctrine States Attorney then if you ever have to defend yourself in this County it won't matter if every other County politician was Ron Paul. Your F....D!

They say they support 2a for self defense, but why do they not support us having arms equal to what the criminals have? How is that defense? It's BS double speak. During the BS 281 legislative hearings one of the anti legislators pointed out a case where a criminal had broken into a Glen Burnie home, and was armed with a full auto m16 and cited that as an example of why they should be banned. Like he wasn't already breaking the law possessing an NFA weapon that was not registered to him and using it in the commission of a crime. Furthermore, the law did not address these arms anyway. The legislator made it clear that the bad guys have these types of guns, so to combat crime, we need to make sure that, non criminals DONT have them. These people are not capable of rational thought.

Yet they Govern our society? Wow..

Their theory is, they will get criminals to stop using guns in crimes the same way they got people to stop using drugs.

    By making it illegal....

While I know nothing of Sheriff Bateman, I certainly have spent enough time around his opponent, Joe Delimater. He lives across the street from me. In the four years I've lived here in Glen Burnie (growing up in Severn), I've seen his personality change. I don't think he would be a good fit for a public servant. I don't think he could be impartial. I've heard from neighbors that his church, which I thought was already too conservative, is trying to distance themselves from him. He is incredibly hostile to some of the neighbors and has very strict opinions on religion. I think he's a politically- and legally-savy nutjob. Some of the neighbors, my friends, are gay, and Joe has been condescending to them about that. During the whole Bill Nye vs. the Creationist guy's debate, Joe said Bill Bye was lying, and I hold science above all other learning. I don't think Joe could be fair and impartial as a political figure. He has too many of his own agendas and vendettas I think he wants to settle. I could go on and anyone can PM me for details, but I live across the street from him and will not vote for him. I think you would be getting your 2A ally, at the cost of religious freedom and right to your own opinion.

So far Bateman is going to hire enough deputies to put 2 in every school. Smith is going to put one in every court room and doorway at the courthouses and remove them from the street.

Fredricks wants a better relationship with the city. And push for social monitoring programs and improve the Intel networks.

Bateman and smith decided to be officers from a young age. Ostis is about public service. Fredricks grew up with family in law enforcement.

Talking about how to deal with autism citizens or citizens with mental disabilities. Bateman already has training.

Fredricks has dealings with crisis intervention model. They bring in trained service personnel to help with their interactions. He doesn't seem to understand the issue.

Ostis supports additional training. Has family that has disabilities. Says he understands how hard it can be identify in a split second.

Smith, 100% Supports training. Need to address other disabilities other than autism, but also deaf and blind and others.

Bateman the elephant in the room question. Throwing his wife under the bus. Her fault, she knows what she did and he didn't want to get into it. He was found not guilty. They go to counseling.
