There's a great variety of antique African edged weapons.
Here's some of my favorites.
This one's a Mangbetu sickle knife from Congo, once used as a weapon, a stutus symbol, and even currency.
Some of these wild, obtuse blade designs are for form or fashion? They seem more to intimidate than be sling in battle? Do you know more of their design, intent, material and likely usage?

Thinking the same thing. The spears and little daggars look pretty functional, but the axe and larger bladed weapons look like function lost a long time ago to form.
Some African bladed ironwork is actually intended as a medium of exchange; others were for display of rank. There's no question that there is a lot of artistic aesthetics in African weaponry.
