  • My guess it's to accomplish two things.

    One get you to leave your house at a set time and place and two, to force you to deal in cash with the 3k.

    Good on you for following up- hopefully someone can do a sting on these aholes.

    Next time someone gets this call, try and get a cop to hang out at the local Food Lion/Safeway. My guess is that the plan is to jump the victim when they get/have the money packs. It's a way to insure that the victim has $3k on them.

    Probably not aiming to hit the house since the payment was so specific. Sounds like they know how to cash GMP's. Or else have an accomplice who works at the store...

    Most of these scams usually involve certain prepaid cards. You call and read them the card numbers over the phone. No personal contact.
