I have a bead on a flat backed canoe but it doesn't have a title.

If I put a motor on it I am aware I need registration stickers.

When it comes to MD, I am aware that for cars they are dicks and without a title you are just screwed. Does this same thing hold true for boats?

You're right, but that's the problem with our nanny state.

I might have to buy new unless there is a way to register without a title. I know for cars it's a hard no

It's been several years since I did it, but I was able to create a new title with the DNR for my little catamaran when I wanted to used a little electric motor on it for getting out into open waters. I'm pretty sure they have a process in place for it.

Check with DNR. As I recall if the outboard is less than a certain horsepower you don't have to register it. Hope that helps.

I had an old jon boat once that had no title and no Hull ID number. They created a new title and registered it for me. I believe I just had to sign of an affidavit.

    Wrong.

I had a 8' inflatable dingy years ago with a little 36lb electric trolling motor, and got a ticket from the water popo for not being registered.

If it's not paddled, you have to register and put a number/sticker on it.

Yes indeed you do! However smaller vessels are free as stated above. My dink is registered, even without a motor because I want to put one on.... eventually.

Can't speak to boats without a registration. However a bill of sale will work as I did that with my first dink.

Stop in at a DNR office or at the MVA. Bel Air has on at the MVA. Talk to them about it. Take the hull number if it has one and any other info on it. They helped me greatly in the past on something similar.

I've actually had a some really positive experiences in the Bel Air DNR office as well. Quick and friendly.
