remington 870 special

recently picked up a remington 870 special in 12 gauge. it is a fixed full choke and has a 21 inch barrel. anyone have any information on these guns? googling doesnt come up with much. are they worth anything?

On the left side of the barrel will be two letters. If you can provide them, I can probably tell you how old your shotgun is. I know a thing or two about Remingtons.

There should be two letters, side by side Example: BC

i have searched the barrel up and down on the left side but i cannot find any two letters together anywhere. only thing i can find is "full" and the engraving talking about using 2 3/4 inch shells and magnum shells yada yada yada. why wouldnt it be marked?

on the right side i can clearly see the magnaflux, proof, and Material ID stamps

Is this a Special Field with the straight cut English style stock? If so they are great quick handling upland guns.

I have not priced them lately but, they are not cheap. Do a search on GunBroker for recently completed sales and you will get a pretty good idea of value.

The lack of a barrel code does have me stumped, but the serial number you provided does give a date range. If you give a call to Remington, their customer service is quite nice and will gladly give you a year of manufacture from the serial.

As a Remington guy, I'll say you have a good one. Today's Remingtons aren't anywhere near what they used to be and yours is from when they were pretty damned good.
