Question of the day. If you had the chance to shoot a piebald or albino deer would you? Or would you just watch it run around? Would you throw all your personal size and antler restrictions to the wind? And after all of that would you mount it?

Attached is the deer in question

I have read here on other threads where excellent hunters here have let them slide.

Piebald, shoot. I’ve seen 2 locally down here in Hollywood within the last couple of weeks. I’ve always heard it is bad luck to shoot an albino though.

In a van, down by the river.
We have several piebald in my neighborhood. No hunting here anyway, but they are beloved in the area. Big no from me. On the other hand, I was 60 ft from a 12pt buck this evening. Doe and fawn were 40ft away, grazing. He was lying by an empty house. Eye to eye, my dogs were wanting to play, he and the others went arounfd the house, then disappeared, barely touching the ground as they covered 30 yards to the cover on the other side.

Nope. First off, they look weird. If you give than a really solid look, the snout is shorter, they are barrel chested and their legs look too short for their body.

Then there is the “bad luck”. I prefer no luck to bad luck. We had twin pies running around our property a few years ago. My brother and I agreed not to shoot them. Either the coyotes or the neighbors were apparently not on board.

Old folks told me not to shoot white or painted ( piebald) deer when I was a very small child

They said it was bad luck

And I don’t need anymore of that than I already have

Plus I have always tried to listen to my elders, tried as best I could anyway
