I can't add any valuable info regarding optics, but I would like to ask if you've ever used the Audubon Birds app? I have it on my android phone and it has various calls and sounds for pretty much every bird in North America. I use this to 'call' birds in my backyard. I hook up a blutooth speaker and point it towards the woods. Within minutes, they are answering back and gathering at the woodline. Amazing fun.
