Entire Baltimore Metro system to close for a month for emergency repairs

Baltimore’s entire Metro SubwayLink system will remain closed for a month, the Maryland Transit Administration announced Sunday, after safety inspections showed sections of track needed emergency repairs that couldn’t wait until this summer.

Gov. Larry Hogan has set aside $2.2 million in emergency funding to run free coach buses for passengers along the subway’s route in addition to the normal MTA bus routes, the MTA said Sunday.

It was proven when the loot rail stopped running the whole way to the Hunt Valley mall. Mall crime jumped back up as soon as it was re-opened.

Owings Mills to Johns Hopkins Hospital. It is above ground until Coldspring. If you drive on 795 it is the train in the median.
When I worked at the big fish tank, I would take it from Old Court to Power Plant Live- easy peazy and no traffic issues.

They need to close it for good! It's an inefficient system that only adds to delays when the rail system interferes with street traffic. You have fifty cars sitting at light rail intersections waiting for the train cars to pass with only a few passengers on the entire train. Total waste of taxpayers money!

It would be interesting to monitor crime and calls for service in the surrounding areas during this "time out".

The buses are not going to be as good since they'll be stuck in traffic and I bet the folks using it for recreation aren't going to use the buses. The folks needing them for work are a different story.

You are thinking of the light rail not the metro. They are separate and moronically not even closely connected.

Union troops in the civil war had to walk down Pratt St. from one train station to another to transfer so it is apparently a tradition in Baltimore to not connect two different rail services. Even the metro and light rail stations are in approximately the same locations as in 1861.
