Ok so I'm guessing I needed to be a little clearer with what I'm looking for, I know the what's and the why's I guess I should have just said I was looking for the when's.:D
I'm more interested to know when they went away from the case canalure and the domed primers, or a possible date when the last time you saw multi colored extruded powders.

I still find new 45 Colt and 38 Special brass with cannelures.

Yep! I know I have present day examples of both. Have 357 examples also.

With the revolver rounds, bullets moving forward pose a problem as well, in the form of locked up cylinder rotation. Now why some manufacturers utilize a case cannelure while others don't is a question I can't answer. MIGHT be a .gov or LE spec? MIGHT be older tooling? I don't know.

That powder I've never seen. No idea what that might be.

The reduction of cases with canalures was gradual over time, and no particular cutoff date. They still are mfg now.

I just took 1000 45 cases out of my tumbler. Only a small percentage have the canalure and all of those are 1950's vintage.

It's funny that you mention the 50's, these cases reminded me of eariler times like art-deco era of the 20's and 30's, but I can relate to tailfins and such of the 50's
Maybe I'm weird but they do kind of remind me of when things were made for form and function and not just eek by as disposable.
