Dropped by do check a friend's inheritance. I'm not particularly experienced in these revolvers (Although I know the Colt by reputation). Thought I'd check with those in the know to comment and perhaps give us a ballpark appraisal.

    H&R Mdl 733, 32 S&W s/n AD 208xx, Very clean

Colt Detective Special, 38SPL s/n 8985xx, Deep blueing, minor grip wear.

    Thanks in advance

I have the 34th Edition of the Blue Book of Gun Values (not current), but should give you some idea..

    H&R Mdl 733, 32 S&W - 90% = $125, 100% = $195

    Colt Detective Special, 38SPL - 90% = $800, 100% = $1350

If that is dirt and not rust underneath the cylinder release and at the top of the grips, a good cleaning would bring a better price.

All of that is rust. Pitting in the cylinder release area looks heavy.

The H&R is worth about $80. With all the rust, the Colt is worth about $175.

The Colt is a very desirable firearm. Its difficult to assign a condition until its cleaned.
Contrary to Boom Boom's opinion, I'm thinking that that is dirt/dust. Rust won't pattern like that, and the photos are good enough that you can see fibers in the built up stuff.
A little gun cleaner and a nylon brush should clean it up nice.
The grip adapter is a T Grip, a common add on from that period and still made.

    Rust won't pattern like that

I've seen at least 100 examples in person of old S&W and Colt snubbies that prove otherwise. Depending on how/where a particular example was improperly stored, the two common rust problems are as shown and/or all-over freckling. If he's lucky (I sincerely hope he is), it's just decades of fuzz and crud.

Please use a well-fitting screwdriver on the Colt. It's sad to see a really nice pistol (and this one might be nice, under the grime) with Bubba'd screws. Right away the caution lights start to flash, and the price goes down.
