I got two new to me mosins. One looks like it is built on a Remington receiver. The other on was apparently built in 1934, on a Friday.

That's a closed loop "2". 1924. See the two below it in the serial number.

In 1934 the barrel shank lost the "Izhevsk- Ordnance Factory" script.

    Nice Mosins - BTW.

I was going to say that perhaps mvee should have better spent his money on a new pair of glasses but after reviewing the photo of the questionable 1934 date on a Friday, the 2 looks as though it could be a 3 stamped upside down. Now we know what he means by being built on a Friday:lol2:

Lou- I agree it may look like an upside down "3", but by 1934- the barrel shank only had the date, serial, and arsenal. I knew what was implied with the drunk statement ;) I just wanted to point out what was going on.
See how the "2" in the date looks in the picture compared to mvee's Mosin?

Thanks guys. I now see whats going on with the first one, the stamp must have been damaged when it was made. It sure looks like a upside down 3, but now I know its a closed loop 2.

+1:) There are a few more gun shows before the end of the year and these pics are making me crave a pre WW2 Mosin.

If you're talking about 91/30's or Dragoons, I think by '28 Izhevsk and Tula had dropped the script writing, so if you like those type of barrel stampings-you will want to look for one before that year.
