Why do people bellyache about a trigger on a micro self defense pistol?

It's not meant to compete with the 365 directly. But, it does give you different option. Many new gun buyer want a manual safety and hammer. Why hate on it? Don't buy it. You have a 365.
    BTW, I won't buy it. I'd buy a P365!
First of all, 1) the P365 does have a manual safety option, and 2) I promise you S&W marketing sees this as competing with the P365 no matter what you think.

Why does anyone "want a hammer"? Explain that to me. I have no nostalgia for hammers, despite owning many hammer-fired guns. If this was a DA/SA gun, I could sort of see the possibility of carrying it in DA for extra safety or whatever. But on an SAO gun, you really have no other choice to carry it cocked and locked. If the trigger was rocking because the gun was SAO, sure, I'd get behind that. But by all accounts, this gun has a meh trigger out of the box.

Incidentally, I don't own a P365. No dog in this fight. I just don't see what this gun brings to the table, especially compared to the P365's excellent modularity, track record, and after-market.

Wow! You really got amped on this. S&W have two pistols to compete directly with the P365 already. This would be a more micro 1911 option. Obviously S&W wanted to try something to appeal to buyers. Stagnate and die is a motto businesses have to remember.

Gotcha , Erwos will be eschewing hammer fired pistols for the imeadate future . And that's perfectly fine .

But an economicly significant % of potential purchasers feel otherwise , and S&W sees potential in that niche .

    No DA? no de-cocker?
A hammer fired gun, with all the non-features of a striker fired gun!

This gun fills a gap in ultra compact defensive pistols.

    10&12 round mags
    9mm
    SAO
    Hammer fired
    Manual safety
    Safety trigger
    All metal
    Thin
    Swappable back straps
    A respectable manufacturer

Where's the miss? Put one in your hand and form an educated opinion.

Amazing how many people don't get this. This gun is arguably less safe than a Glock due to being fully-cocked in firing condition (vs the Glock safe-action requiring a bit of additional striker pull).

The TFB review is a well-written equivalent to the old Gunblast saw of "it's a dandy plinker". They tell you the frame finish is wearing off already, and neglect to mention the trigger weight, which is typically a red flag that it's nothing to write home about. I won't even get into how uninspiring the rest of the gun is.

I'm not saying people are dumb to buy it - it's your money, and there's worse pistols - but I am really really struggling with where all of the supposed benefits of going the SAO hammer route are for a pocket pistol, especially given how low-information carriers will inevitably decide to carry it hammer down and then try to thumb cock it when the situation gets real.

It's like when "Mad River Canoe Co" made a hybrid Canoe-Kayak" called the "Synergy",, They took the worst features of a canoe and blended it with the worst features of a kayak.

Honestly,, what benefits does this have over a basic Glock striker fired gun ??

Well, I like the concept - unless the trigger is indeed crap. Give me a hammer-fired small SAO for carry and I'll be interested. Give me one with a decent trigger and I'll probably buy it. Plus, I'm a S&W fan.

This all the way ^^^ I am not going to hate on it unless I get one in hand and try it.

I just compared them on handgunhero.com and if you change the contrast, you can see that the CSX is a fair bit bigger than the P365. The site has comparisons of other guns as well.

Nice, I’d forgotten about that site. Handy tool.

CSX is probably a good size for me, I’ve handled the P365 and it’s just a bit too small for a good grip.

But I’m hoping for a DA/SA version of this new Smith, I’d like to see that.

I would like to see that myself. I'm too old to have to remember to take off the safety before shooting.

Sig P239 might fit your needs. Doubtful S&W would ever make that.
