My sons all love the outdoors and woods and water. I started them young with fishing and hunting. The one has been a Game Warden in east Tennessee for like 5 years now. He works his own hours he chooses but still has days in court and has to work like 60 hours a week no matter what. Its not many game wardens in Tennessee like in Maryland we have way too many. My son gets to see and find many good hunting spots as he is working and walking the woods and resorvoirs. They are making good pay there also.

It can get really cold up in Maine.

Not to mention, you are miles from anywhere let alone backup.

I'm ok with all that. After living in the overcrowded heat and humidity of MD it sounds like Paradise.

That said, I'm three years from retirement eligible here and I'm not a competent enough outdoorsman to qualify for this job.

There were a few people I was stationed with up there who were going to try for it after their discharge. I don't know if any of them followed through or not though.

Game wardens have quite a bit of authority, especially up in the county.

    For a Hunter and/or Fisherman????

    Not hardly.....

Think you are ever going to see an Opening Day as a Hunter/Fisherman again???? Nope, all hands on deck for those days. Think you're going to get a day off during Firearms Deer Season.....again all hands on deck.....

Natural Resources Police was my "What are you going to be when you grow up job?" Until I ran into a group of NRP Officers eating lunch on Opening Day of Goose Season when I was about 14. Topic of conversation at their table?? "I wonder what it's like to actually hunt on Opening Day???"

Watch old episodes of North Woods Law. That's the best way to find out what the life of a Maine game warden is like. The last few seasons have been with the New Hampshire game wardens.

This is probably the most disliked part of Law Enforcement after you get over your rookie years if you are a good cop. Those who likes to sit on there a** and collect a pay check probably love it.
