NINJA SWORD! LOL just kidding. Made this as a test piece for a grinding jig I developed.

Sniped a Ulize for cheap(ish) off of ebay. It joins the Rescue and Police 3. I do love these things...

Yesterday I received my first Richard's Son Knife & Tool Company knife from its owner and chief designer - our own tss1004 (aka Justin). He told me, after finding out that my entire department at work was being eliminated, that he wanted to send me a knife to cheer me up a bit and that he'd make me something custom - whatever I wanted. It was a kind and generous gesture from a helluva nice guy. I told him that I really liked his Mountaineer model, but that I wasn't in to larger fixed blade knives and could he make me a smaller one - along the lines of the old gentleman's knife style.

So he did. It's a very cool little knife with a 3 inch blade. Hopefully, he'll chime in and tell you how he made it, but I really like it. Here's a couple pics of it...

Thanks for the kind works and glad you like the knife! It's the least I could do for a friend that has done much for me as well.

ZT 0550 and Kershaw Chive Damascus

My newest member is a ZT 0550 (Gen 2) Limited and Damascus Chive

I love the 0550 but I am not sure if I can EDC it...as kickass as it is, it's huge compared to my CRKs. It's incredible quality and strength and IMO one of the finest production folders made, but it's big, wide, thick, and heavy. I've got a custom carbon fiber grip for it too, but the weight may be too much for some slacks I have. My Small Seb literally weighs half that of the 0550! It's size is closer to the Umnumzaan than Sebenza, although it is not as long but much wider and much thicker than the Umnumzaan (and the gain is the 0550 has better ergos versus the Umnumzaan being slimmer).

I've been toying with purchasing a Hinderer XM-18 in the 3-inch variant but can't find much on them. Anyone handle a 3 inch XM-18? I don't know if I can spend $500-$800 on a Hinderer without holding it...

Just got my Balisong BM42 t-latch back from the factory. Bought it long ago and actually used it, it was my EDC for years, broke the tip a few times, it was worn from sharpening, and I was never a fan of the combo edge. Of course this was long before the current cult following and $400 market price for this discontinued model. For a mere $25 and 3 weeks, Benchmade replaced the blade with a new 154CM plain edge, replaced the bearings, adjusted everything, and buffed out most of the scratches, it's practically new, haven't even cut anything with it. Now that I have a better appreciation of a fine knife, and a few awesome large EDCs I'm debating what to do with it, keep it nice and watch the value go up, put it in the rotation and use it, or sell/trade it twards something else.

Hang on to it for Odin. He'll need something to keep Uncle Smokey in line. ;)

He is skilled at unarmed combat, at a mere 12mo he perfected the D!@K punch, so no problem keeping everyone in line. If I get rid of the BM42, it would have to be for something more awesome like a ZT0777 to pass down, not really looking for yet another EDC

Store it...you have quite a few ridiculously tough folders that are as good as EDCs get...the weehawk blade on the 42 is awesome but for general utility EDC usage, it's not very well-suited nor is the handle well-suited for heavy usage compared to something like the ZTs which have exceptional ergonomics. Also, balis scare the crap out of people when opened in public. Especially if you have the original box, it's going to go up in value more and more...it's also a fantastic trading knife in the event you want something that someone has and will only trade for other rare knives rather than outright selling...you could easily find someone to do an outright trade now on most of the LE ZTs including the carbon fiber composite Hinderers, Chris Reeves, really rare Benchmades such as a carbon fiber and CPM-M4 LE edition/Spydercos such as the sprint runs of supersteel, or possibly even a Hinderer XM-18. Given how huge of a following they have, it's golden for trading.
