Dove Hunting in Southern MD

Anyone here dove hunt public land in Southern MD. I have not dove hunted before but was going to try this year. I know Chetleham, Myrtle Grove and Chicamuxen have been planted, but curious if it is worth the time to check it out.

I will be using a 12 ga, Remington 870, 28" barrel with modified choke, 7 1/2 shot. I may get a Mojo Voodoo decoy as well, but wanted didn't feel ready to commit on the $38 (LOL).

Any suggestions would be great

I would just go walk some of the sunflower fields and see if you can scare anything up, then sit for awhile and see what flys over. I've never used decoys fwiw.

I was thinking of hitting Kings Landing on opening day. Too hot, glad I didn't. Ended up swinging by on Sunday afterwards, and was surprised to see that the fields near the parking lot had not been planted.

Anyone know if any of the others have been planted? Anyone know why they weren't this year?

I'd call the DNR and ask.

Sunflowers at Cheltenham were mowed down inadvertently according to a DNR rep. Sunflower field at Myrtle Grove was burnt to a crisp and I only saw five or six doves total while there.

Btw, the mojo is worth it. I had a dove land next to it on my last hunt.

Chapel Point State Park has some open fields. I don't know whether any of them get planted for dove.
