The problem we have out here with growing deer populations is the "old Boy" mentality. They will not listen to QDM and say you can only kill bucks. They will kill fork horns and skip shooting does. They talk about how they don't see good bucks. I try and reason with them that they are killing half the potentially good bucks young and the big boys aren't leaving the thickets when you don't kill does and enough A$$ comes to them without looking for it, so they don't move much.

It's not rocket science, but they seem to make irrational reasons to make it seem that way.

Yup, Mm-Hmm. Pretty much this. I think a lot of these old boys is just ascared to tinker with a deer sporting different body parts.

As for where I do most of my hunting, the county has seen fit to kill every stinking doe adjacent to my property. That results in both positive and negative situations for me. I love to shoot lots of does, but for the last few years, have been forced to lay off of them. The bright side is, since I tend to lay off the bucks until they reach 4-5 YO, I usually can count on getting a shot at one or two big bucks per season. And that is the main reason I hunt deer. I generally don't start hunting until the end of October.

If you uses my garden or lack there of as a gauge. Way to many deer around. They have demolished my garden, my fruit trees, my wifes roses and anything else they munch on. They are vermin.

Last season we had many deer around as usual. The numbers seem equivalent this year to last. One interesting thing I noticed was last season, we had countless yearling bucks (spikes, forks, small 6s etc.) and apparently most survived as the cameras out back are now showing many different 2 1/2 year old bucks.
