Short of wearing a gas mask to stop gas from the ejection port going up underneath your eye pro and in your nostrils. Do you have any solutions to stop the gas on a SCAR-17?

I've tried 1.15mm gas screw from MGW. I cannot find anyone who makes one smaller. I also am using the Tactical Brass Recovery brass catcher. While both parts added has reduced gas it still is a problem that causes watery eyes. Besides the OSS cans are there any other solutions?

Does anyone know anything about running a PTR91/HK91 with a silencer? It has no gas system so is the gas still just as bad? And I've been reading something about switching to a #17 locking piece because without one it will beat the gun to death. Will that help in gas reduction?

Teach yourself how to shoot left handed. I did years ago and I'm better off for it.

Or you could teach yourself to shoot right-handed to get your face on the opposite side of the ejection port. :innocent0

I feel for you lefties. Gas face, shells ejecting into your arm & head, working a bolt-gun with your support arm, etc.... Good luck solving this one.

Send the barrel off and have the gas port sleeved and drilled to a restricted diameter. It may not run without a suppressor aattached though.

Or you can sell the SCAR and buy a .308 AR or non banned .308 semi auto variant that offers adjustable gas. FAL is great but banned.

This is my strategy. I'm even testing out a Superlative Arms adjustable gas block on mine, since it has a bleed off mode. So as soon as the ATF sends me a stamp for that particular can, I'll try it out. Working fine unsuppressed so far, though it pains me to deviate from the SLR gas blocks I prefer to use.

Depending on how that goes, I may even try the SA piston kit (or one of the new adams arms piston kits that appears to be adjustable without tools) for a 5.56 SBR I'm planning on mostly running suppressed. I'm not big on retrofitting a design intended for DI to a short stroke gas piston, but I also am not big on gas face. Hopefully the adjustable gas block will do the trick by itself so I don't feel compelled to mess with the piston conversion.
