So we have worked planned in DC on Monday which our customer has setup a few weeks ago. I just got a panicked email asking if our guys can work Tomorrow because they wont allow us to install Monday because of DC Emancipation day.

I don't even know who to be pissed off at. My customer for not planning his construction schedule properly or DC. I'm certainly not going to pressure or force our guys to work the Saturday before Easter.

If you can without affecting your business, tell him, "Poor planning on your part does not make an emergency on my part."

Of course, DC can suck a bag of dicks anyway. What a stupid holiday.

No need to point fingers who is at fault.

How is anyone going to issue a stop work when the government is shut down?

That has to be one of the dumbest F'ing things I've ever seen, even for D.C. and they do some pretty stupid sh*t.

Great observation. I'm sure nobody is going to answer the illegal hotline.

Yea we just spoke I said unless they want to start throwing $$$$ at my guys to convince a few to work tomorrow it's got to be scheduled.

Now we have another job that wants to reschedule too. I've been working in DC for 15yrs and I've never had this happen before. I thought today was going to be a quiet slow day at the shop.

The more that I think about this it really pisses me off. Im not a racists person at heart. I just wonder how does this specific DC policy benefits anyone.

If anything I think policies like this do more to foster division by highlighting differences. Why don't we just have a national holiday called civil war remembrance day.

Because even though they won't admit it, many in the DC govt. are still racists. The cultural infection spread by Marion Barry and his ilk still remains.

    sad but true

I doubt they have the legal authority to stop all construction work because of a holiday. It's not "illegal" to work on other D.C. Government holidays is it?

True.. unless the work require inspectors to be there.

I've work in DC for 9 years (private co.).. don't recall having our work being closed.

It says that all construction work requiring permits is not allowed or you can be hit with a stop work order and fine.

I know of many companies that work construction on this day in DC. Unless this is something new this year, I don't know what to say.
