Why is 22LR so freakin' dirty?

    Most other calibers you can't see the puff of Bad Stuff coming out the muzzle; why is 22LR so freakin dirty for such a small round?

    Low pressures, uneven and incomplete ignition and cheap powder, at leat for the bulk pack stuff. Good loads can be a whole lot cleaner though.

    In my experience, bulk ammo is dirtier than the stuff you get in a 50 round box. Remington is probably the dirtiest stuff out there while CCI, Eley and others are fairly clean. Like any thing else, you get what you pay for.
