    The correct one for SOP is standing operating procedure. It refers to "standing orders" for certain contingencies.

    I don't think it's that cut and dry. For NRA Range Officer you work up a Standard Operation Procedure, which is the lay out for all operations needed to run the range. I suspect your "SOP" comes from the military. Looks like both are correct in there own right.

    SOG - Standard Operating Guideline. A newer thing since America turned lawsuit happy against public safety, etc. It is not as "concrete" as an SOP, so some variance is allowed.


    Also, along the lines of DGAF/WGAF:
