I had a handful of LR Winchester primers burn through on 308 and 30-06. No pressure signs on brass, I used same head stamped brass in the loads.
Annoying as it can etch the bolt face.

No and I have been handloading since 1985. Just loaded and shot some .38 Spec. & .357 Mag. with 30 yr. old CCI primers that a friend of mine gave me no problems. I try to use only CCI primers in my opinion they are the best. Can't say I've had that happen and I load from 9mm all way up to 7mm Rem. Mag and .300 Win. Short Mag.

I know it must seem distressing but primers have been etching bolt faces since center fire cartridges have been around. While it doesn't happen as much as in the past, it does happen. The damage is cosmetic and not a safety issue. I'm sure the thousands of C&R collectors who shoot their ancient rifles can attest to that.

That’s weird I had one etch out the side a few weeks back. WLR on a mild load in 243. Had it happen last year on a mild creedmoor load..Primers were not old. Wrote it off as a fluke, but I will say that after seeing the above post it’s a primer issue. First I’ve ever experienced in thousands of rifle handloads. I saved that pc of brass I’ll get a pic and post it in a few days.
