A friend recently was gifted this old Winchester 1902 Boys rifle from a 92 year old friend that had been in his family since new as he used to shoot it as a kid. Anyway, the stock is decent but the metal parts were covered with surface rust from resting in a room closet on the eastern shore for many years. I do a little gun smithing as a hobby and my buddy asked if I would like to try to re-blue it. He removed all of the rust by glass beading the parts. I buffed the parts with some very fine steel wool, prepped the metal and used Brownell’s Oxpho-Blue. After bluing and a good water rinse and dry, I lightly went back over it with the steel wool. Oiled it up and reassembled.
Btw does anyone know anything about these rifles? Through the research I have done they were made from 1902-1933. Being that this one is chambered for 22 long and shorts only, I think it may be made between 1902 and 1913. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated. Here are the pics after re-bluing.
