For those that haven’t noticed, Appalachian Promotions has listed their shows for next year. There are four shows listed at the Howard County Fairgrounds and three listed for the Frederick County Fairgrounds. That is one additional show for Howard County compared to Silverado’s previous schedule.

It will be interesting what kind of show they put on and how well attended.

My understanding is that Application Promotions purchased both shows from Silverado. Hopefully this means more vendors and better shows.

How would they Purchase a show? what would they purchase? there some sort of exclusive contracts for the venues?

Appalachian Promotions did not buy out Silverado Promotions. There were offers to buy Silverado, however the owner didn’t take anyone up and just ceased operations.

When one purchases a business entity like a show promoter, one buys the rights to the name, the web domain and what not. For gun shows it usually includes a list of the vendors and their contact information that have set up at the shows. One of the more useful things is the floor layout of where the vendors have setup in the past.

When it comes to venue rentals, they are usually done a year in advance. Once a promoter has a show, they can typically reserve it for the same weekend the following year. Since Silverado did not reserve the Frederick or Howard County fairgrounds, the previously reserved dates are now open for anyone to book. That is why Appalachian is now able to hold shows at those venues. One other thing. Most gun show promoters have in their contract that the venue will not rent out to other gun show promoters.

It's hard to imagine that a different promoter could - in Maryland - significantly (with any profit, whatsoever) change the fundamental dynamics of trying to run a walk-up gun show in this state, enough to avoid the financial despair that Silverado was feeling.

I don't know any facts about the change in promoter. I just can't imagine that Silverado would give up the shows and get no money from the new promoter. This doesn't mean that they purchased their business just a specific show. I do know that promoters have sold shows in the past to other promoters.

    Juuuuust over the line
I don't know the exact details of the transition, but it is my understanding that Silverado didn't sell anything, they just went out of business, retired, or something like that so that they no longer exist as a business entity. The guy who was Silverado could, to put it kindly, be a bit abrupt with both show attendees and vendors, so at least part of the decline was self inflicted. The last show he did at Frederick was down to only one building, and there were a lot of empty tables.

Again I have no details but Appalachian has picked up both venues. They have done the Timonium show for years, and also do a lot of shows in PA. (They are based in Carlisle.) This weekend in Frederick they were back up to two buildings ( the building across from the front door had an auction Saturday so they put the second group one building over to the left) and were pretty well filled, I did see a couple of empty tables in building #1 but they more than made up for those in building #2, and the show attendance was moderate to average so maybe they can bring these shows back up, at least as far up as is possible anymore in Socialist Democrat Maryland. Onward, to Howard County!

    Well, if we’re imagining ...

I occasionally mull what my experiences with so many “Hispanic” friends and in-law family members TELLS ME is a very real possibility and that is, EVENTUALLY, the values of so much of the various Hispanic and Spanish speaking country (legal, hard working well educated) immigrants to this country (and particularly MD, NY and MA) are going start expanding and run smack up against - in conflict with - the entitlement dystopia being promulgated by LibTard DemocRATSs in control ...

I imagine / I think it’d be neat if Appalachian Promoters, someday in the future, saw life being breathed back into show attendance by just such a demographic. Perhaps augmented by female shooters itching to get into shooting sports, defensive knowledge or just “get the whole story.”

But alas, my “imagined nation” has not yet even begun to play out in CA so ....

back under my rock I go! :)

I'd like to score some some subsonic ammo at a Maryland gun show, but I haven't been to one of these shows for years, and the last Maryland shows I frequented had what I would call slim pickings in ammo and at high prices. Anyone able to suggest a show upcoming between Annapolis and St. Mary's where there likely will be a few vendors selling ammo? Thanks much!

What caliber are you looking for?

I don't believe any shows where you are asking. There is an Easton show once and a while but will be more slim than a HoCo or Timmonium show which would be the closest.

No shows in that area .

Bubba Kitty Ammo is a regular at Timonium, HoCo, and Fredrick , and has a selection of subsonics .

Most standard 147 grain are subsonic. There are also commercial subs available. Bubba Kitty (formally Tomkat) is good people. Andrews subs are decent. Ne er had an issue with them. I tried 308 and 223 subs from him as well.
What host and can are you using?

Bubba Kitty? Well, ok, then! Never heard of Andrews subsonic ammo. I have at present a 9mm carbine and a Walther 9mm pistol, both with factory threaded barrels.

    Formerly marketed as Tomcat's .

Andrew even has " normal" 147 subs , and " hot subsonic " 147's . They have just a hair more velocity , but their pressure curve is optimized for subcompacts with dual recoil springs .

Can’t wait until April for the Frederick show! I need to stock up on the PA-154 size ammo cans.

Here is our reality.....Frank worked very hard. I liked Frank and we got along fine, as he didn't intimidate me whatsoever and personality is just that....but the gentleman that ran the shows in the Baltimore area was just more accomodating in business. That show is now run by his friends son that is, in fact, Appalachian Shows. Many people have retired and moved on or sadly are not here. Yes things may have changed, but its up to you! Yes you. When these shows take place you should go, even if you don't need or want anything just get out of the house off the couch and go. These dealers need to supplement their incomes by doing this....stop the online Amazon anti gun purchasing. Bargain! I can get this for $2.50 versus three, they will indeed meet your need. And just think you can converse and even learn something. The value in these shows is not the admission, it YOU! It is a way for the sporting community to congregate, and your supporting an opportunity to continue your right and your freedom. Now get out and go!

One final word....or comment. One day your going to face reality, and it could be one election or one Governor that with the swipe of his/her pen your ten years older saying I remember when you could XYZ...and poof its all gone.
