I took my girlfriend shooting for the first time last month. This was her first time handling a firearm and now she wants to go back. Most of my rifles would knock her over, so I had her shoot a .22 and my .32 Mauser pistol, but the M1 carbine was her favorite.

Shot my 1943 Springfield M1 Garand, Remington 03A3 and an AR (so the gf would have something light to shoot...which she later thanked me for after one round out of each of the M1 and the 03A3).

Shot the Greek HXP out of both which of course worked well. And some commercial stuff, PPU and S&B, out of the 03A3 which also worked well.

I had my GoPro Hero 3+ setup to record the shooting as I recently started doing. I mount it on a Gorilla pod with an open frame mount using a Olympus Noise Cancelling Mic which works very well. I have been using it as a visual recorder of my sessions recording which rifle, ammo, results, etc instead of writing stuff down. This is done verbally and via video. I show serials, my C&R Inventory No, ammo boxes, head stamps, record the target when I put/put up new ones and its just handy to talk into the thing to make comments on loads, rounds, etc. and it's just fun sometime to look at later when I cut out the note stuff and just make a shooting video. I plan to combine a bunch of trips to make one 90 sec all shooting video when I get enough good range trips recorded.

I love my Star B. I took it to the range today with 2 boxes of "new" ammo from Freedom Munitions (not remanufactured). Out of 70 rounds, I had 7 rounds that failed to fire. I looked and they all had nice, deep primer strikes. I'm going to write them a little note. Brass cases fed flawlessly, though. Here are two 4-inch targets at 25'.

Glad to see this thread still going.

That's crazy about so many misfires with Freedom Munitions. My friend has gone through several 1K cases of their ammo and I've shot about a case itself and haven't had any issues. That's not good!

A customer service rep contacted me and asked for the lot number and how many rounds I had left out of that lot. I have no idea what lot number they are as the only thing on the boxes is the barcode sticker with description. I will be really impressed if they end up sending me a replacement rounds.

Who owns the land that you shoot on, BLM?

If so how does that work, just find a section of the desert with a good back stop and shoot?

Yup. Locate and scout blm land. Make sure your backstop is good (I use a mountain). Then double and tripple chexk you are on BLM. Check around for coyotes and smugglers. and blast away. Most important step... Even if jesus christ himself asks you where you shoot, keep it to yourself. Even if jesus is a cool dude he will tell his buddy judas and he will tell all his friends. Pretty soon vatos from south tucson are dragging TV sets and water heaters out there to blow up.

I was playing around with some loads for my Swedish CG63. The 9 in the middle are my new pet load - Hornady 140 grain match on top of IMR 4350. The ones high left are Hornady 129 grain SSTs on 4350. The others are 129 grain SSTs on IMR 4831.

Then I broke out the K-31 (mixed in with my son's 243). It shoots 1.5" left (low shot). Need to drift the sight.
