"and the steel clip slides neatly out. It holds 30 rounds of 5.56-mm ammunition."

Yeah this article is pretty terrible.

Direct impingement - Method of having a rifle dump a load of shite on itself in order to induce the action to reciprocate. :lol2:

This is why no one should trust "media". The author wrote down what he thought was correct but clearly had zero knowledge of what he was writing about. But you see popular mechanics and think, "well, this guy must know what he's talking about".

I've only shot about 120 rounds through my newly built AR. But with all the reading, and even doing the build I never made the connection that it was the gas tube that was launching the projectile....

Man, you can learn something every day if you just listen....

A solution to a problem that does not really exist.

Also, since the gas tube point back onto the shooter, as per the description " the gas tube also launches the projectile"........ I'm so freakin lucky, after thousands of rounds fired through M16s and AR15s.. I've managed to dodge each and everyone of them hypersonic projectiles.

That article is all well and good, and true. However a well made piston driven AR can go essentially the life of the barrel before requiring cleaning in order to fire reliably. The real difference is the cleanliness of the gun. Anyone who said that difference is not dramatic, does not own both systems.
