Just relocated here from the Midwest. Live in Carroll county. Hoping to find some good info on IDPA clubs here. I just started doing IDPA in my old state and was hoping to find some IDPA events close to Carroll County.

I also just started to look at what it takes to get a conceal carry permit in MD. Seems like it’s very hard to get one here. $50 and no criminal history guaranteed you a lifetime CCW permit in my old state. So far it looks like I’ll just have to give up Ok being able to carry a gun outside of my house.

Aside from guns, I like PC gaming as a hobby. My family really likes Maryland so far. Schools on average are way better here among other things. We’ve found folks in Carroll County to be pretty friendly so far too. It’s really cool to be close to so many things to see and do. The amount of history around here is just massive compared to what we were used to in the Midwest. Houses costing 300% more and the gun laws are really the only drawbacks.

Edit: I’ve also never seen so many people display their state flag. I must admit the Maryland flag is pretty cool looking.

Edit 2: I steamed blue crabs for the first time a week ago with a ton of old bay. It was awesome.

    Welcome!

For IDPA check out Thurmont Conservation and Sportsman's Club north of Frederick. You don't have to be a member to shoot there.

Closer to home, the old fossils at the Associated Gun Clubs are finally getting up to speed on action shooting, after resisting it for years.

The AGC is just 10 minutes from Eldersburg, just inside Baltimore County. Probably the best range in Central Maryland. Although I do like Thurmont.

Thanks for the info. Do either of those allow members to privately use a shooting bay for IDPA style practicing?

The AGC one is a little confusing. You just pay for one membership to become a member of 30 different ranges?

Other way around . You become a member of one of the affiliated Gun Clubs , and then are eligible to purchase a Range Badge to use the large range complex .

Welcome! This is a great time to join MSI, and then you’ll be eligible for a range badge at AGC.

What state did you move from?

    Welcome!

I'm curious too, what state has a $50 one time fee for conceal carry?

    A bit of a drive, but there's IDPA at AAFG - https://practiscore.com/clubs/aafg-idpa
AAFG also has USPSA, if you care.

Here's the link to our gun rights group, Maryland Shall Issue (MSI): https://www.marylandshallissue.org/jmain/index.php

Indiana. Looks like lifetime permit went up to around $100 these days. But they made the five year permit free now in 2020 apparently. Still, big difference from MD.
