    I'VE GOT IT!

    After unleashing my google-fu, it's a 7/8th scale Type 38 youth training rifle. It's only able to chamber empty casings for training.

    The bore is rifled, but it seems to match the trainer video and other photos in every other way. As an interesting note, he told me the majority of the rifles being handed out had the magazines destroyed. He took this one because the magazine was intact. Makes sense now that they wouldn't need to destroy it on a training rifle. Thank you everyone! I appreciate the help.
