I wonder what would happen if the regular old flu were to cause a couple deaths.

Washington state just declared a SOE. As if no one ever died from the flu there. Funny how they never really say what that entails when the declare one.

It is, but the media is not reporting it. Not sensational enough. In my opinion, we should do what we are doing for the Corona virus, every year for the flu.

I've been too lazy to dig into the official numbers for the regular flu, but its here and doing its regular knock out of those susceptible

According to the CDC the 2019-2020 flu season (Oct 2019-Feb 22 2020) figures show:

    32,000,000 – 45,000,000
    flu illnesses

    14,000,000 – 21,000,000
    flu medical visits

    310,000 – 560,000
    flu hospitalizations

    18,000 – 46,000
    flu deaths

Their methodology in coming up with these wide ranges is a black art, but they do report that the number of child deaths so far this season is well above last season at 125.

    A couple items:

Brass door handles are somewhat bacteriostatic; brass is apparently a toxic environment for bacteria. I don't know if it works on viruses.

Those hot air hand dryers are far from sanitary - they create an aerosol from whatever was on your hands.

A gentleman washes his hands before handling his meat.*

*Quote from J P Donleavy's The Unexpurgated Code

It does, but there are almost no brass door handles anymore.

That effect takes several hours to kill pathogens.

According to a story in the Wilmington DE News Journal paper last week the numbers for Delaware are:

    This season through February 15
5,047 cases of Flu with 9 deaths aged 28 to 96.

    Last season totals
    3,247 cases with 24 deaths.

Not Coronvirus per say, but a returning cruise ship to the Bloodymore cruise terminal had a shitload of flu-like passengers (82 people)

Still like cruising but maybe don't take cruises during the height of regular Flu season.

    https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/season/flu-season.htm

In the United States, flu season occurs in the fall and winter. While influenza viruses circulate year-round, most of the time flu activity peaks between December and February, but activity can last as late as May.
