Small pistol isn't hard to find, but Federal SPP is a fricking unicorn now. I did manage to find a brick of Federal Match SPP for $33 at the Chantilly gun show, though.

Powder Valley is like a ghost town for primers at the moment but I have found some CCI small pistol at other places. I'm well stocked on primers but my son needs some for his Garand and AR and I thought I would help him out by splitting the hazmat and shipping and order more for myself as well. I can't find anyplace to get them all on one order. Would also like to throw in some Federal 210M for a future Creedmoor purchase.

Cabelas should still have S&B SPPs. I bought some bricks from them, along with a brick of CCI SRPs.

Maybe the increase in IDPA and USPSA competition is showing its pressure on market. Not fact based just speculation.

That's an odd commodity to find missing. Any reason for this?

Hodgdon is also coming out with 5 new pistol powders named, Green, Red, Blue, Unequal, and Target, along with CFEBLK

Would appear a not so subtle play vs. the recognized Alliant Dots.

Wonder where Unequal lines up. Unequal in what? Versatility? A Unique play maybe? Or a new claim to fame? Target vs. Bullseye?

All speculation. Guess we'll see soon enough how they all line up.

Unique was the first powder I started reloading back in the '60's. Loaded for my $49 CMP Colt 1911. ;)

That $49 CMP Colt 1911 is indeed a grin! :). Still a lot of money back then. I've always said I want just ONE DAY to take today's money, and today's hindsight, and step into a time machine to visit a well stocked 70's era gunshop. What a day that would be! Doesn't work that way of course, but a man can dream I suppose. Then again, might be illegal in Maryland.

Hodgdon has me scratching my head with these newly announced powders. Hodgdon has been very aggressive in recent years with marketing the Hodgdon brand name. Often it seemed to me at the expense of their acquired IMR and Winchester labels. Extreme series touting temperature stability. The copper fouling eraser series, the new and supposedly cleaner burning Unique. The Hodgdon umbrella has many current powder similarities, and in some cases outright redundancies across their Hodgdon and IMR and Winchester brands. It appeared to me that the end game was to absorb the IMR and Winchester labels over a long period of time by touting their R and D improvements and aggressive marketing under the Hodgdon label only. Eliminate cross branding redundancies and such. Push the Hodgdon name hard, with the goal of the Hodgdon brand becoming increasingly viewed over time as the innovator. So what do they do? They put these new 2017 powders in a clear play versus Alliant under the IMR banner.

Well, so much for my theory, huh? :) Could be they think the IMR brand is too strong, with too much of a following. Or they'd damage and cause confusion if they fool with it further after the Dupont switch some years ago now. So maybe leave well enough alone. They have made some IMR additions and changes as well. Who knows what they have in mind longer term. Not me for sure. Not with this latest 2017 move.

I don't know what their thinking is but I agree that we have too many powders today. When I started reloading, we had Alcan, Dupont, IMR, Winchester and Hogdon (for surplus only). I may have missed one or two. For the most part, the powder manufacturers only had, at the most, a dozen powders for sale. Today, there are so many powders that I can't keep track of them all!

Being a good red blooded American boy, I like to have choices but this is getting ridiculous.

If something is unique, it is not equal to anything else.

    Thus Unequal = Unique. :)

Go back to the 60s, and M1 Garands and 1991s were $19.95 delivered to your door.

    Plus $5 NRA membership.

Yep. Or Milsurps in the barrels, even at stores like Woolworth. Commonplace everyday sights for commonplace everyday people. Exposure as long gone as yesterday's prices. Remember being told I can maybe get one of those rifles "when I get bigger". :) Far different era.

Not just prices. Lots of changes. Some for the better, others decidedly not.

For the people that say there's too many powders. What is your problem with it? They're not forcing you to buy it. Just ignore them. If you don't know if you're buying Alliant Green Dot or Hodgdon Green you shouldn't be reloading. If you don't know the difference between the powders how can you expect to use the right powder bushing.
