I thought that most ammo types once legitimized would be developed then manufactured with slight differences to prevent them being chambered in a firearm based on the parent cartridge.

Guess not the case anymore? Anyhow, be careful for what you do.
My understanding is no-one was injured except their pride and wallet.

Damn. The rear takedown screw lug is ripped off. I'll bet that thing hopped off the lower.

yes i tried to load a glock 35 .40 mag into a 9mm glock 34 years ago and i was like wtf, my first ever jam with that gun, and then i figured out why.

recently i had an extractor on my 9mm sti go and a buddy loaned me his sti. i mean, everyone shoots 9mm in 3 gun, right... never even gave it a 2nd thought and obviously neither did he. turns out he loaned me his .40 sti. that time, the round did chamber and fire and very fortunately nothing bad happened.

pays to double check as it is too easy to get it wrong.

I had my own mix up of recently, a stray 556 round made it into my bag of 7.62x39 and I ended up loading the 556 round into my sks. Luckily the small size of the round made it fire from to the chamber and all it did was a pop n fizz noise but surprisingly the round left the barrel.

I had my first mix up a few months ago.
Loaded a magazine with .380 for PPS M2.
First round sounded pitiful and next to no recoil.
Didn't eject and I dropped the mag and kept thinking the extractor was buggered.

About 20 years ago bought a new box of 30-30 ammo. Took it to the range and found one 7-30 waters in the box. Didn't shoot it and doubt it would have done anything, but it did get my attention!

I was at the range a few years back with two Para Ordinances, a P18 and a P16, I ran a few mags of 9mm through the 40 and didn't notice until I was picking up brass, They were swelled up like a tick.

I will never understand how someone that owns a 300blk can get rounds mixed up with their 5.56/.223 ammunition! It is pure stupidity and no excuse is adequate for the lack of attention while dealing with guns or ammunition.

So when have determined that putting the wrong ammo in a gun is bad?

Does this mean future threads will include:

"I put gasoline in my diesel, and it blew up"
"I used motor oil as a sex lube and I now have a rash"
" I used a crayon to fill out a job application and didn't get hired"

Probably when we decided to go with a proprietary case that accommodated a bore diameter larger than the parent cartridge.
I bet this has happened more than a few times.

    You answered the question. Inattention.

I had a handful of .40 get into my bag of .45. They loaded into the mag and feed fine. Sometimes the extractor grabbed the rim and the rim, and they fired, leaving a funny looking piece of brass.

Many times, they did not fire, and just slide out of the barrel when I tipped the muzzle down.

    Not a big deal.

Moral of the story: Store your ammo in the proper container. Never mix blanks with live ammo. Always check what you are loading into a magazine. Only load the weapons with the proper ammo.
