Has everyone had good results with American Eagle M1 factory ammo? I got 1 box from LAX ammo to get free shipping level. I have 400 rounds of POF surplus m2 ball. I should be good for a weekend

Early 1943 Winchester receiver. 1944 cartouche on the Springfield stock. Rebarreled sometime in the 50's. My uncle was seriously injured in the Po Valley in 1944. I wanted a M1 that he could have carried. Gorgeous rifle, I get chills every time I fire it, thinking about how it was used back then.

    Easily my favorite gun ever.

    You're missing a -03 and a .30-40 Krag. :D

    And a Carbine.

What the heck? Where’s the trapdoor love?!?

Lol. I am half there. Got my M1s.

Saw a Krag at a show for a really reasonable price, but it was sporterized and I just couldn’t. It was done okay, but I really want correct (or at least rebuilt to be correct) Krag.

Likely an 03A3 for me first.

Here are some pics taken at the CMP Store in Anniston, AL when 4570 and I attended the class last year. The racks were full of M1's when they opened that morning. But they were gone PDQ...

The big one they had on display was way cool.

    Got a -03 there.

Wouldn’t mind a carbine, but that means another caliber I gotta buy. No likey.

That is an -03A3, not the same thing. :D

You can tell by the position of the rear sight. -03 is forward of the receiver.

    Oh, gotcha. :o

That must be the ones with the straight stocks. I like mine better.

    4 types of stocks.

    Original -03 was the straight.

Later came the pistol grip stock ("C"), the "S" (semi pistol grip), then the "Scant" stock, with a semi pistol grip.

-03 could be any one of the 4. The "Scant" stock had a bit of a pistol grip, and was made from a blank originally cut for a straight stock. Only seen on -03.

Technically an -03 with a pistol grip stock is an -03A1, but they are marked as -03.

    -03A3 would typically be "S" or "C".

The best way to tell is the rear sight placement.

Early '03 stocks had grasping grooves milled into the forward section of the stocks. It was eventually deleted to speed production. Early Remington 1903 rifles had that feature as well as the lightening cuts (flats) in the front sight collar but they were eliminated as well to speed production as a wartime expedient along with other simplifications which ultimately resulted in the 03A3. I've seen '03s and '03A3 rifles with any mixture of features including one marked "03A3" that had an '03 rear sight and a receiver not milled for the 03A3 rear sight on the receiver bridge.
