There is no definition of “Bona fide” in either the statute or case law.

Therefore it is whatever the a judge or jury decides it is.

Good luck using that defense if charged with violating 4-203

Nope, bona fide collector is not defined under Maryland law

    Disagree. It can be EVIDENCE.

    Bona fide
    ADVERB
    law
    sincerely; without intention to deceive.
"the court will assume that they have acted bona fide"

The law considers many things as evidence, such as certain actions and intent. The fact that MD law is not clear doesn't exclude anything from serving as evidence of a clear definition.

As noted, a test case to define the legal definition of the term is needed (by presenting evidence such as readily-accepted definitions, licenses etc. to support the case.)

Just to clarify one more time in case someone reading this doesn;t understand. The Designated Collector letter does not give carte blanche allowance to transport regulated firearms. The status we can apply for is a "Designated Collector" but the statute quoted above explicitly says "bona fide collector." They are NOT necessarily the same. If you got stopped at a restaurant on the way home from the range, you would be hard pressed to explain to a jury how your Glock 19 counts as a "bona fide" collection and how you were planning on exhibiting it at Applebee's.

Please stop with the “no stopping allowed to or from the range” nonsense.

Agreed. There is no wording or prohibition on stopping while engaged in an allowed activity under 4-203. It is a personal decision.

Some states do have that wording but not MD..

If you do stop... please have a friend with you.

Folks have been followed from the ranges and when they stopped and walked away from their vehicle... had their guns stolen from their vehicle.

Watch your back... don’t be a victim. If you notice a vehicle which seems to be following... drive to a Police Station.
