But where to you learn about what the right parts are?

You have to get the parts that are pattern specific. If you get the Aero M5 set, make sure you order the DPMS pattern, so that you can utilize a lot of AR-15 parts, to help keep costs down and you won't have to go with proprietary parts for everything. As it stands right now, the only proprietary parts I have on my build are the LPK that came without a trigger or grip. All the other parts on my lower are AR-15 parts, like the SSA-E, Magpul PRS, rifle length buffer tube, and grip.

If you want advice or input, I'd be happy to help you out.

I mean, I don’t know that I’d call you a model. Not that I am one to talk :lol2:

I'm a shape model. Round is a shape, right? :lol2:

This is about as top end as you can get hahaha

All the ones named above are very good.

If you want to piece/build your own as DA said, make sure to get a matching upper and lower, 308s aren't as universal as the ar15 are.

I’d put Gap at the top of the list. JP a close second, POF, LMT, then knights armament (probably should be higher on the list, but they are expensive and the others do just as well)

Any of these will do with possibly some tweaks:

    Armalite
    DPMS
DPMS G2 (Parts can be hard to get)
    KAC
    LaRue
    LMT
    Windham
    D.D.
    Les Baer
    GAP
    S&W
    Colt 901

All of the above can use some tweaks, even the ones that cost a LOT.

I'm not a big fan JP.
