I'm the proud new owner of a DPMS AP4 .308 (Thanks Duffy's!). I LOVE this thing but does anyone know if the smooth handguard can be changed out? or is there another way to tac it out? For example putting on a bipod? Seems like it can't be done with this handguard, except for right under the front sight :/

You'd have to remove the FSB and the flash hider to change it out as from what I can see from the picture it looks to be a free float tube.
Probably have to change the barrel nut also depending on which handguard you want to go with.
Shoot it awhile, you might like the way it feels.

Looks like I can put something under the front sight if it has a small enough mount. I don't even think a vertical grip will fit

As mentioned, you will have to swap out the free float tube for a rail, quad or otherwise to make that happen. Not hard as long as you have someone or know how to remove the FSB to swap it out.

    Nice rifle!

I'm going to be taking off the quad rail that came on my dpms 308 because I don't need the rails. Looking at your pic I think yours is a carbine length but if I'm wrong and its a mid length maybe we could swap?

doesn't the tube have slots in it? mine did and i bought a stud swivel thingie that had a backer plate that went on the inside of the tube, worked just fine. if not, as noted above, drill a hole in the tube for one.

you probably don't want to attach anything directly to the barrel-use the free floated tube instead.

I was contemplating drilling it but then it would hurt the resale value if I ever had to get rid of her?

I have a different model DPMS but I think w/ the same handguard. It looks to me like the barrel nut is machined as part of the tube. Can anyone confirm?
