    memory lane

I see that RHS is larger but with the same low student count. they rent part of it out. My parents live on Ardennes on the PostOffice side of Twinbrook shopping center. One block down by St. Lo. My younger brothers worked at Ollies and Twinbrook Deli.and I used to work at that old Rustler Steak House in HS in the early 80's. lolol

My old Geometry Teacher from RHS owned the Twinbrook Tap Room. used to do the old bowling alley there. St. Judes is on Viers Mill just past Aspen Hill Road.

Marchones did have the best subs. The rolls had crunchy outsides and soft insides. There was an old bagel place at Georgia and University I used t ofrequent on my walk to Viers Mill to catch the Q2 home. Old school NY bagels and cheap. Warm and had that crunchy outer shell.

The varsity players used to take me at Good Counsel to the Trolley Car to get beer and pizza. hahaha I was a freshman but often practiced with them. lolol

And you could still eat the hard roll subs the next day.

Mr. Walderman (sp?) or some such? Started buying beer at the Tap Room when I was 15. :-)

Did Ollie and his brother ever kiss and make up? It was pretty funny when Ollie opened his deli across the street.

There is still a Gentleman Jim's out by the Air Park in case you get a craving.

Used to get the black camo pants with drawstrings on the ankles to wear during the Parachute Pants days in the early 80's lolol. Moved to Twinbrook in 79 and went to St. Jude then GC for a year then RHS.

    Somewhere in MD
Starting at age 10, we lived right on the corner of Bucknell drive and Reedie down the hill from the Safeway store on Georgia. It was a great place to grow up, with woods and near places to go explore. This was from 1960 to 1970 when I left of the army. By 1980s when I came home it had all changed a great deal. As kids, we used to hangout a lot at the Triangle Bowling alleys and eat Mighty Moe's at the Hot Shops over on Viers Mill. We used total our BB guns into the woods at the end of Bucknell drive and pink.

My first mechanized transportation was the little Yamaha twin jet 100 I bought from Blalocks BSA/Yamaha dealer next to the old Jerry's sub shop on University. Sometimes got the 'bag of burgers for a buck' at the Little Tavern.'

It's been a few years since I went for a visit back to Maryland, and it was soooo depressing that I won't be coming back. I'll just file those memories as a lost time that went the way of the passenger pigeon.
You won't recognize the area. The Safeway you knew is gone, replaced by a high rise building with Safeway operating out of the first floor. Triangle Ln parking lot is being turned into high rises. Anchor Inn sold out and turned into strip mall stores. Wheaton Lumber sold and property turned into townhomes.

Yup Walderman. He used to wear bowties and looked like the character actor Jeffrey Lewis. Yeah, took Wifey to the Gentleman Jims at the Airpark recently. It was ok. I do not know if they made up. The one on the 7/11 side was sold.

Several months ago, I went to Chuck Levin music for the first time in years. IT used to be the go to place for nearly any kind of instrument or accessory. They are as big as ever. But, they now have security at the door interrogating customers as to what they want before letting them in. Turns out what I wanted to look at is on the second floor and they actually sent me with an escort rather than letting me be unattended on the elevator and upstairs hall. This was after calling ahead from the security desk to upstairs sales even.
It was more than a little off putting way to be treated when seriously looking at the purchase of a multi $K instrument.

Of course the parking area and neighborhood in general were a lot worse too.

Not really Wheaton Triangle proper, but I used to love The Venice restaurant, with their salad gondola.

Is the Royal Mile still open?

Use to eat at Capri near the Bowling Alley. I use to go eat a Pops Pizza. At 15yo and they'd serve me beer with a fake ID.

We went to HS together. I grew up in Aspen Hill off Bel Pre and Arctic. Graduated in ‘86 from RHS. I remember all these places. My brother almost set the Capri Restaurant on fire playing with the candle on the table. Took my now wife to the Anchor Inn for her birthday dinner. My mother used to have to drive to an Italian grocery store to get Ricotta cheese for lasagna. I don’t remember the name. Giant Food and Safeway didn’t carry it at the time. Anyone remember Barnaby’s on University Blvd? We knew the owners. Great subs (free). My mom just moved into Leisure World. She’s pretty much stopped going to Wheaton Plaza. Same with her friends.

Remember that cave off Viers Mill and the creek on the way to the back entrance to Peary through the woods? drank a lot of stuff there with my St. Jude's friends when they went to Belt and Peary. And off Turkey Foot at that creek damn.

Use to hang there very very late at night. I recall many years ago a lady jogger was killed along that path. There was kind of memorial with runners medals hanging in trees in the area she was killed. The wooded steps from the lower to upper field at Peary are still partially there. Toured the school a few months ago with some of my class. Some of the school is pretty decrepit. The rest rooms I think some of the same fixtures from the 60's.

I remember the lady jogger being murdered but I don’t think I ever hung out there. “That was Peary territory!” Like it was a gang. In the fall I went to all the football games and then either went to a party or out with friends. I don’t know what I did during the other half of the year.

never knew about the jogger. I moved to Twinbrook on Ardennes and Viers Mill in Summer 79...Ran track for St. Judes so walked that path to that lower field to the track after school all the time.

John Sprung's American Guitar Center had the seriously cool stuff.

Wish I'd had the money to buy Roy Buchanan's Telecaster after he died in the Fairfax lockup.
