Snapped this up in the classifieds cause it satisfied the long desire for an affordable scoped hunting C&R in a caliber that I reload. It was from a trusted seller so it was a no brained for me. Maybe the seller can post any stories he has with this rifle.
I took it to the range after looking it over and running a patch. Shot with some rounds he gifted to me. Let it cool then shot my reloads (edit: it was 1970's HXP surplus, not my reloads) I run for my Garand which also shoots well on paper with my 1903a3. Without tuning any loads it shot a 3/4” group of 4 rounds at 50 yards from the bench with 3 touching. It might shoot better if I had a target with a more defined center or had put a dot in the middle. It has a more modern Bushnell Banner scope on it right now which I think is fine for hunting.
4 digit no prefix serial number.
So far all my research supports the sellers belief it was built in or about 1957. Research saying they started at 1000 so its the the 91st model 110 ever built.

EDIT: Interarms boxes are NOT the ammo I was gifted, those were closed up after shooting the Argentine Mauser I also had with me

DAMMIT I wanted that too. Seller didn't answer my PM about where he lived then it was gone. I didn't want to find myself driving 3 hours

Beautiful vintage Savage there Melnic! Nice group also. I have a 110L L/H version in .308 Win. from the same era. Looks just like yours only left handed. I have a vintage Weaver 2-7 power scope on it with vintage Weaver rings. I shoot my .308 handloads through it also. It gets decent groups. I bought it from a widow in the early 90's. Her husband was the original owner. I'll only hunt with it if the weather is clear and dry. Great find enjoy it!

I have a rifle like that but its in 270 and has the cheap birch stock. Few years its junior though.
Shoots just like it too @200 with Winchester silver box 150's
I free floated the barrel channel and bedded it with bondo over 30 some yrs ago.
Also fitted a larger steel trigger loop for when it gets cold out.
Killed so many deer with it it aint even funny.

I remember when I bought it, was going to go with a Browning but decided to spend the extra money I saved on Ammo.
Boy was that a good choice. I think I killed the last Buck with it this year though.
Need to buy a better rifle:lol2: Something that will accept a bipod and has a stock that will act as a survival tool or open bottle caps or something.

Nice rifle and love the sling! Saw it in the classifieds and knew it would not be there long. Congrats!

Nice find! That's gotta be 1959 or 1960 production with a SN that low. Cool! When I was a young pup and shot left handed (left dominant eye) the 110 was on my wish list. But I couldn't afford one at the time and settled for a very plain Remington 788 as pickings for lefties was pretty slim. The 110 was a very advanced and flexible design for the time.

Thx all, yes, I'm very happy w/ my purchase.
BTW, I made a correction to my post, I used Surplus HXP from the CMP which is 70's surplus Garand food. As I was emptying my bag, I realized that yesterday, I switched and used up the HXP which attracts has a little bit of steel in the jacket and magnet and can't shoot at steel, so since I was shooting at paper, used that. So accuracy can only get better provided I can do the work right.
I have several hundred Sierra Match Kings that I think I'll aim to use on this to work up a load.

Oddly enough that bargain basement 788 now has a collectors following and is worth more than the 110.

Now I do feel old, never thought that would happen. Always figured that between the Winchester 70 and the Remington 700 the poor 788 would always be the red-headed step child. My how times change!

I have it’s slightly older brother

Mine is in 270 Winchester, it has a low 4 digit serial number as well and I’ve had it for many years. It’s very accurate and it’s harvested lots of deer. The only issue is that the hole for the front swivel is worn out and needs a repair. If I would’ve seen that one for sale I would’ve jumped at it that’s for sure..

So, I had the Savage back to the range today. This time with my hunting reloads. These actually were tuned for my 1903a3. 48gr of Varget. Sierra 150gr pro hunters. I still had a box loaded up I did not use on a TX trip in 2019.

3 shots @ 50 yards. I’ll take it to 100 next when I get the chance. These were all 3 shots I took with about 5 minute cool down between shots. Front support with a rifle rest. John, you did great work on the bedding on this :)

I have been altering my 30-06 hunting load for this gun but here is where I’m at with 100yards
At least 1/2-1” of this is me with the lower power scope and no rear bag.
I’m going to see at 200 to look at bullet drop.
I want to leave this load and the scope settings for hunting next year

That is a cool gun to collect! I our also like to get a C&R bolt action wood stock hunting rifle, maybe in 30-06 as well! I have a 1950's Marlin 336 in 30-30 i picked up last November! So I got the lever hunting gun covered!
