Poll: 72% of Voters Support the Second Amendment

A McLaughlin & Associates poll conducted April 8-13, 2021, shows 72 percent of general election voters support the Second Amendment and its protections on the right to keep and bear arms.

Moreover, the poll found 73.4 percent of general election voters agreed that “the Founders understood the importance of law-abiding citizens right to legally own firearms for things like hunting, sport and personal protection.”

The 73.4 percent also agreed that “the 2nd Amendment is one of our most important and cherished civil rights in the U.S. Constitution.”

By a margin of 58.1 percent to 21.9 percent, general election voters said they were more likely to support a candidate “who supports the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms.”

And by a margin of 55.5 percent to 36.1, general election voters said they believe enforcement of existing laws is more important that the passage of new gun control.

This both good news and simultaneously a little alarming if I consider that a quarter of the population apparently doesn’t support a private citizen’s natural right to self defense.

I'm reasonably sure that the 25% you refer to was higher a year ago.

The public is being educated in the value of protecting itself in the absence of viable police protection. That's why there are so many new gun owners.

The Progressive Peaceful Riot Squad has opened a few formerly sheepish folks' eyes to the existence of evil. Hard lesson, with stiff penalties for failure to learn.

Polls only matter if we know the exact question and who they asked. Telling someone you support the 2A to me means very broad gun rights. My sister in law would likely also say she supports the 2A, in principal, but doesn't believe in CCW or that anyone should own a semi-automatic weapon.

^^^ This. Questions are very carefully crafted to elicit the response desired by the pollsters. Impartiality? Never. The population(s) polled are also carefully culled to involve folks who are likely to support the pollster's desired outcome.

This. While the smart people were able to learn from history, a lot of less observant people got a lesson in "you need to take care of yourself" this past summer.

Yep. Remember that Obama, Hillary, Slow-Joe - all say they support the Second Amendment. So much so that Hunter is lying on his background check paperwork to get a gun.
