Thats a clever little rifle. Doesn't look the barrels screwed up tight to the reciever though unless its manufactured like that for a reason.

Good eye; maybe a secondary “shroud” over the chamber portion of the barrel which is the actual threaded part?

Hard to say without seeing it up close. Maybe they wanted to get something together for pre production photo op just to get out in front of something.
I had an opportunity to see one of those mini Garands in a rack one time.At first glance it looked just like the real thing from behind the front hand-guards.
Seems like a nifty rifle that would be appealing to a lot of folks.

Saw one at Clark bros. for $474.95. cute as can be but not at that price.
Same size as the Cricket bolt action .22. seemed to be very well built. A mini Garand would be the bomb. A 1903 would be a logical choice for a mini.

Don't get all spooled up over these things. Over the years, different companies have come out with .22 cal milsurp copies. Most have left a lot to be desired. Outside of the actual military trainers, one of the best K98 copies came from China before Clinton stopped them from selling firearms here. It was well done, accurate and inexpensive. The biggest reason that most of the copies fail is that they cut corners to keep the price down. The Chinese did not have that issue.

It's surprising, the Norinco TU-33/40 and TU-KKW filled niches and at a price point that worked. The action was a BRNO Model 1 copy but if you have to copy something pick a good one and the BRNO design is accurate. A real KKW will set you back around $1k today. I remember the TU series selling for around $200-250 when first introduced. These days they're in the $350-400 ballpark and only available in the secondary market.
As to the mini m91/30, everyone knows how much I love a good .22 trainer. We'll see if it gains traction in the market. Are there enough kids who are history wonks (I know I was) to make the concept work? Me, I'd probably look for a Polish Wz-48 for a trainer instead as it's in the same price range and assuming it fit the child properly.
