A few warmly dressed Hooligans met at the Savage range at 0830 for 2.5 hrs of shooting rifles and pistols in 23*F, cloudy weather. We had to 4wd through about 15 inches of snow to play at the Savage River Range this morning, but it was worth it.

I was pleased that my 125 year old Springfield Trapdoor 45-70 was dead-on at 50 yards no matter who was shooting it. Now j8064 wants one too. Buff7mm has learned to watch the wind while lining up a shot in order to avoid the Black Powder cloud blowing back on him.

The new aperture sights on my Ruger 10/22 Takedown were adjusted just right last night and all three of us were all hitting within 5" at 50 yards. A really good day of shooting but cold, cold, cold, ....

j8064 let me fire his brand new Henry .45 Long Colt rifle and his replica Colt 6-shot revolver with the same 45LC cartridge. Very nice; just like the wild west. His Russian mil-surplus was bruising shoulders again this morning, but cycled beautifully in the cold.

Buff7mm's collection of pistols never ceases to amaze. The newly mounted Red Dot revealed just how much the cold affects your aim.

Perhaps will do some more winter Hooligan shoots

It was a quick improptu "freeze your a$$ off" shoot. We didn't mean to leave anybody out. :) We were just gonna shoot and run.

I think Buff gets the prize for the best dressed. The man looked like an Eskimo. And 4570 gets the prize for the most fun toy...you guessed it -> a 45-70.

No Hooligan thread would be complete without a few pics tho.

Here are a few more pics from today's "freeze your A$$ off" range visit. Since winter has only just begun, I imagine there'll be a few more opps to do it again in January and February! Are you Hooligans and guests up to the test? :D

A couple of pointers on Hooligan Winter shooting to remember:
    1) It was 23* today. We can handle that. But it's very different shooting when it's 12* and the wind is blowing...been there, done that! :nono:
2)Take a lesson from 4570inMD in the last pic. When shooting in the winter DO NOT kiss a gun you like. You WILL get stuck to the metal. Gawd, it took both Buff, me and the goat almost 15 minutes to get the grip strap loose from 4570's tongue!...:lol2:

    Enjoy...:innocent0

Good thing Gordon wasn't bent over when his tongue got stuck, with no new inductees today the goat might have taken advantage of him.;)

Buff, how did the sight work out on the 22/45? Is it the fast fire 3?

It worked pretty good for just setting it up with a laser bore sighter, it was to cold to mess with fine tuning it, and I messed up and didn't realize I ordered the 2 instead of the 3.
I think it will be fine once it gets warm enough to fine tune it.
