Here is an old as heck Colt. Rather poor condition. Any ideas about age? It says 19217 on swivel arm that holds the cylinder.

It makes me nervous to hold it and say Bang, lol.

I was also able to make out DA32 on the barrel. Cool piece. Wish it was in better condition but for as old as it is I think it is lucky.
Serial number put it as made in possibly the 1880s.

    Interesting.

But give us some more clues, at least the cal .

    Yes, the bbl looks shotrened.
The real s/n is on the butt. A number on the crane might or might not have a relationship with the s/n .

As close as I can see on my phone , that looks like a finish blemish below the cylinder latch, not a screw head .

We still need calibre and size reference marker .

Went thru some pictures of that era Colt revolvers , keying from cylinder length relative to trigger gaurd, cylinder latch shape , and grip shape .

Cylinder is too short for .38 Long Colt ( or various longer ctgs ). Best guesses would be .32 Long Colt, .32 New Police, .38 New Police .

The imeadate 1st guess is a Colt New Police in .32 New Police ( dimentionally identical to .32 S&W Long ) . Originally 4in bbl , later shortened . Mfg 1896-1907 , first standard issue revolver of NYPD .

Colt New Pocket in .32 Long Colt ( not interchangeable w/ S&W ctgs ) is also a candidate, other than grip shape ( round) . Colts aren't one of my primary fields of interest, but Colt may well have had a square butt counterpart of the Pocket Positive , predating the New Police, offered in the older for Colt .32 Long Colt .

Added - In same catagory as above , the Colt New Pocket, predating the New Pocket, and its hammer block . Intro date reported as both 1893, and 1895 .

I think, when referring to a Colt, that would be the "near side."

Inexperienced shooters are often advised to remove the front sight "so it won't hurt so much when the bad guy shoves it up your ass."

 Definitely in the top 10 funniest comments I have ever read on this board. Thanks for the laugh.

I really do not know. It does say DA32. So I assume dual action 32???? No idea really. Ihavehad this for a really long time and just started to look into what it is.

When I get home this weekend I will post more pics.

I will even take the grips off and see if there are numbers under the grips.
