I will be relocating to California for work. Before you call me crazy, it was driven by $$. 250% pay raise is not something you say no to. With that said, I need to ship my firearms cross country because the moving companies refuse to take the firearms and I don’t want to do a cross country trip. Newborn is only 2 weeks old.

I have 10 firearms I need to ship to myself in California. All have been made CA legal with either a fin grip or a magazine locked and bullet button removed.

I went to UPS and FEDEX and they said that they can ship all the firearms but there needs to be an FFL on side of the shipment. It either needs to go to a FFL from me, or a FFL from (Maryland) to me (in CA). I prefer the latter route and wanting FFL suggestions locally that can help me out. The two I called said no and the ones in CA said they’d never done something like this before so they don’t even know what to do when these firearms delivered to them.

    Where they send me.
Can you fly them? Not sure what the 10 are. 10 pistols, not to bad; 10 long guns would be a bit tougher.

I would ping more Kali dealers to keep the cost down to yourself.

Where are you in the state? Suggestions 4hrs away may not be very viable for you.

I was under the impression that it was perfectly legal to ship guns to yourself. I've heard of people doing that when going on a hunting trip instead of taking them on the plane.

Yes it is legal. But new policies by UPS and FedEx which require FFL on one side of the transaction. I’m in Southern Maryland. La Plata. But if I need to drive in MD to ship my guns to myself, I will do that. 3 pistols, 3 rifles, 1 shotgun and 3 “assault” pistols in liberal terms.

Long guns can be shipped through the post office. Just put your name and address on them and ship to yourself.

As for pistols, if it was me, I would strip the slides and barrels off and send them to myself and just carry the frames on the aircraft. There would be no problems with that method of carrying them in your checked baggage.

FedEx will no longer ship firearms with their new policies.

Your options to ship are UPS or USPS (Long Guns only). They need to be declared as firearms if you ship them. If you don't and they are lost/stolen then you may have other problems.

While law does not prohibit it, many FFL's will not receive firearms via mail from out of state from an individual, they want the firearm to come from a FFL.

In order for a FFL in Maryland to legally send firearms to a CA FFL, they need to be registered with the CA DOJ.

I would advise you to be VERY careful about what you think you understand of CA Law before you send any firearms to a CA FFL. People that think MD Laws are bad haven't seen the extent of CA Law. If the FFL believes they are not CA legal, you may never see the firearms again or have legal issues with the DOJ.

Just some advice. It's free so take it for what it's worth.

yeah ^^ sound advice. you better check with a CA FFL before you ship your "I think their legal" guns. Better to sell them here.

It's a long drive. But some things are worth doing yourself.

When I was attending a class at the Naval Postgraduate Institute in Monterey,CA they were trying to recruit a Professor. In the 10 weeks we were there three came to visit. All turned down the offer, citing cost of real estate/living as prohibitive. At one time during the BRAC discussions, there was talk of moving it to Annapolis. There were two main reasons cited, sharing resources with the Naval Academy, and more economically feasible to operate.
