Tucked this partial can away and forgot I had it for.......oh.....I'm guessing 20 years or so! Yeah, it still shot just fine.

What they USED to look like before today's plastic.

Price tag on the bottom says I paid $13.95 Ah, the good old days! :)

No issues there. I got this from a friends Father last year and it's from 1986. The man forgot he had it. I have fired it and it's just fine today.

    Uncle Duke,

    It'll shoot just fine!!

I recently gave an un-opened pound of W-760 to a friend of mine, to load his .270 Win.
The can looked exactly like your old can of 748.

I heard that he took a nice 10 pointer in Nebraska, with ammo loaded from that pound, on Saturday.
Distance........ 376 yards. 130 grain boolit.

You know this world works... if you put something away and forgot about it for 20 years it would be fine. If we intentionally tried to store something long term it wouldn't last 6 months. That's just how it goes.

That is the new and improved container for powder.

When I am home, I will post a picture of the old cardboard containers.

I've got a couple of those, too. Hercules (not Alliant!) 2400, Green Dot, Unique.
I've got about a pound (probably less) Bullseye in an old 8lb 'keg' that's cardboard, and the lid is the same diameter as the keg, itself.

    My, how times have changed!

Yeah, just recently threw away an old carboard tan/red colored Bullseye. The old plastic pull up spout with the red screw on cap. Poured nice too.....now they've got everyone reaching for a damned funnel! Change isn't always for the better, huh?

Still have an old cardboard 2400 too. Guess none of us are getting any younger, huh?

Already shot it.....just figured I'd post a pic after laughing at myself for not knowing it was still around. Hear some guys ask about older powder (and primers) occasionally....just fine if properly stored. Plus some folks have probably never seen a world that wasn't plastic.
My old W748 didn't see the use that yours did though.....just paper here. 376 is halfway across Nebraska! That's neat as hell! W748 is one of my favorite powders! I use a lot of it.

I have some with the pull up spout, and some with just the cap that snaps on, so you still needed a funnel around. I think the pull up spout came later.

And some, like H335 have been coming plastic bottles since the 70s.

I found a Unique container that my uncle had that was cardboard and still had a handful in it so I loaded some up and it shot just fine! Its from the early 70s I think.

I'm slowly burning through that now.

Been doing some organizing in the reloading room to accommodate all the supplies that I've been stocking up on lately, needed more room... lol

Yeah, just a bit! :) What gets me to shaking my head is some of the price tags on some of the older stuff I still have. I still have some $12.90per 1000 primers and $6.85 Hornady .224 bullets from yesteryear.

I need to look through my bullet boxes.... probably have a few relics with price tags on em on that shelf... lol

Nice thing is, they don't 'go bad' as long as you keep em dry (powders and primers), so that H110 is worth it's weight in gold right now... and it shoots just like it did when it was new. I started reloading in the 70's, so some of the stuff I still have around is from that era and it's all still fine.

I think I paid about $7 for the first pound of powder I ever bought (Bullseye).

    EDIT------------------------------------

I am home and just checked, my can of Bullseye is marked $8.90.

It is a cardboard can like the H110 can pictured above. I have a can of Blue Dot ($15.99 tag) that is in one of the ones with a spout.

If memory serves me, I think I paid around $9.00 for Unique, when I started loading.
CCI Primers were somewhere around 1/2¢ apiece.

I still have a brick (1,000) of Federal primers, that I got for less than $14.00.

They made gunpowder way back then?
