I ship a lot of stuff. I find USPS to be ok for small items. I use FedEx for everything else. UPS in MD is horrible. They like to kick your package or roll it or in some other way destroy it. They are no help solving issues. I can't tell you how many times we shipped expensive shipments of 5 packages only to have 3-4 show up on time and one be 3 days late screwing the whole thing. We once got like $500 back from UPS for it! All I ever got from them is they don't care. USPS is little more helpful. FedEx has not always been perfect but I have found them to work with me much more than anyone else. Plus they are easy on the boxes.... Sometimes I wonder how they got here in such perfect shape.

Bottom line to me with any business I deal with is this. Everyone screws up. Its how you fix things when you do. UPS says sorry, can't help. USPS says we will try but we are fairly worthless. FedEx fixes the issue.

They once lost one of my Registered MGs! 95lb crate! I called and they had it found in less than 6 hours! The threat of a phone call to the ATF may have helped too but I have found them very helpful overall with other issues. I would rather have a company that screws up 2 of 10 times and fixes both issues than a company that screws up 1 of 10 times and will not help.

I have also had my FedEx ground packages delivered early... sometime 2 days.... so I don't know what you guys are talking about there...

I talked to the lady at the Will call counter at UPS. She said that things are exceedingly heavy right now. Much more flow than last year at this time. A guy was irate this morning and to the point that she had to call the cops. When I walked in this morning I saw my box on the pile next to the door that the driver just brought in and pointed out which was mine and carried it to counter with her permission. Yup, I got someone else's permission to move my rifles :)
I can't fathom someone being rude to this nice lady over a package not getting there. And if it was late, it sure was not her fault. Sad thing is that if She complains to mgmnt, that's what it would take to get more bodies down there.

The second package was in our mailbox today. FedEx must have distributed it to some other neighbor's house, and they put it into our box. Oh, well, all the ammo's finally here. Not too disconcerting!

Oh you'll like this one... Once I had a shipment of five rifles in one huge box from an auction house in CA. Checked tracking while at work and it showed my package delivered and signed for by a name I didn't recognize. Got home to find no package on my door step. So I call UPS and tell them my story and that I'll have to call the ATF if it can't be found. The dispatcher tried to reach the driver but with no luck (under a bridge sleeping?). Meanwhile my neighbor calls to tell me there's a huge box in her living room with my name on it. Turns out the driver went to my neighbors house when he found nobody home at my place and a member of her cleaning service signed for it. Had he place a note in the system saying "delivered to neighbor at XXX Street" all this drama would have been averted. Took a year off my life sweating that one.

Everything was going fine with my most recent order until UPS handed it off to USPS for delivery.

Package is supposed to be headed to Short Pump, VA... They were SO CLOSE but now so far.

Hmm... Another UPS "so close and yet so far":

Got to Springfield, VA - almost here, then warped to Homsham, PA - WTH? Is there some type of worm-hole in Springfield? Did the ATF in Philadelphia need to inspect it?

It passed me and now its coming back? Supposed to come to Fulton, not up and down the East Coast :sad20: Maybe these Russians are on a tour of some sort?

Oh, its just left Horsham, PA - to come back down I-95. :sad20:

I got to talk personally with my FedEx guy tonight. He seemed like an OK sort, but not terribly "together". I felt sorry for him, though, still out at 7 pm in the cold rain ... but was glad that this time he called to find out which house is mine.

But is it efficient to send a package (2 actually) to Hagerstown, then to NC, then put it on a truck for delivery, then bring it back and send it back to Hagerstown?

My guess is when the first mis sort took place it was put in a bin with other packages, the bin was sent to NC, and everything in the bin went down a conveyor belt to be put on one of many trucks going out for delivery. It wasn't until that point that the individual packages were handled again and someone said "hey that doesn't belong here".

FWIW ups allows you to redirect packages if you set up an account with them. They automatically notify you of incoming packages to your address too.

But I have had way more problems with ups delivering to my home than FedEx.

FedEx dropped off my 10 Ammo Cans from Bass Pro at 10:38PM last night!

I think the recent bad weather plus the volume of on-line shopping is causing FedEx and UPS a lot of issues.

I ordered a pair of new headlights for my truck on Friday Dec 6.
I got a FEDEX shipment notification they were being shipped from Pompano Beach Fl on Monday to arrive in Great Mills on Wednesday 11 Dec. Last night I got home and no package.
I checked the shipping status and right before my eyes it goes from the original status above to saying it's in City of Industry CA and will arrive here on 17 Dec.
    Go figure.

Got home yesterday around 4:30 to find that I had missed the UPS man by 15 minutes and so couldn't provide the required over 21 signature. I was dreading having to deal with the drive and wait at Laurel, when lo and behold, around 8:30 pm I hear a honk and look out my window to see the big brown van of happiness. Driver said he had to pass back by on the way back to Laurel so he thought he'd try again -

several years ago, one of my customers who was the northeast regional manager for UPS was talking about the problems they had getting good drivers and package handlers. He said that a ridiculously high percentage of applicants are weeded out due to criminal records. I asked if he would hire someone who had an arrest record of numerous drug possession charges, two counts of destroying mailboxes and stealing the mail, was expelled from high school for threatening the life of a vice principle, arrested for assaulting a mail carrier, arrested for credit card theft, arrested for theft of construction equipment, arrested for assault on a cop, arrested for home breakins and theft of a shotgun and numerous other charges? He said no chance. Then I informed him that he had an 18 year old guy working the line loading trucks with packages on the night shift with such a record. Two days later I showed him documentation of the guy's 17 arrests before he was 18yrs old. Not going to say how I obtained these records. These records couldn't be used to fire him since they were sealed juvenile stuff but the arrests were listed on MD Case search which is public record. He was fired and escorted from the property when he came to work that evening. Note: his record hasn't improved since becoming an adult.

    UPS:
5 packages in the past week. 3 have had "late trailers" and were +1 day for delivery.
But none took a detour :)

Great ... now USPS is trying to out-do FedEx. I'm into day 7 of a 2-3 day priority mail delivery. It shows up as having gotten as far as the VA sorting center late last night. That usually would have meant delivery today, but no such luck. Bet it shows back up at the sorting plant again tonight.

This hasn't been a good year for cyber commerce in my household.

As much as folks biotch about the post office, the biggest f'ups I've ever had have been with FedEx.

FedEx is SUCH A JOKE! <-- I hafta agree on that one. Earlier today they left 2 C&R firearms - valued at about $1500 - at my door - no signature no one to accept delivery.

    Fortunately no one stole them.

UPS did the same to me last week...box with a C&R rifle was left by my garage door at 8:45pm, the same day that multiple packages were stolen from doorsteps in my neighborhood. On the box in giant black letters was written "ADULT SIGNATURE REQUIRED"...luckily I was home and heard the 'thump' of something being dropped in my driveway....and that was after the delivery date was pushed back by two days.

My opinion usps is the worst. I ordered a new carburetor for my jeep and never received it when the tracking said it was delivered. It was a 5 day battle with me on the phone and back and forth from the distribution center. The last day the "manager" said I have to fill out a paperwork for mail theft. Meanwhile the customer behind me in line chimed in and ask me if I said the address was 2431. He had noticed a box on the shelf behind the USPS worker said the address #. So 5 day of bullsh*t and all they had to do is turn around. The postal driver prolly didn't want to get out of his truck and just scanned it delivered. I was so pissed from their carelessness and "sorry about your luck" attitude.
