I witnessed the distress my father encountered with pneumonia while the hospital vacuumed his lungs periodically. He survived it, but it sure is nasty.

He's only 72, but pneumonia is serious stuff. Sounds like he may have gotten it inside the hospital.

I witnessed the distress my father encountered with pneumonia while the hospital vacuumed his lungs periodically. He survived it, but it sure is nasty.

Remember that because he was a liver transplant patient, he's on immunosuppressants and so for him, catching even a community-acquired bacterial pneumonia is as serious as it would be for someone with full-blown AIDS.

The fact that he's declining so rapidly and Hogan, Franchot, etc have been talking about him like he's already dead means that it probably developed into ARDS or something equally nasty.

    EDIT:
    He's dead.

Yep, it was probably ARDS. That, or he arrested and they were waiting for family before they pulled the plug.

It sneaks up on you. By the time I figured out something was wrong and went to the ER, my blood pressure was 200 something over 100 something, was having trouble breathing, 102 fever and I don’t know what the pulse oximeter said but as soon as they saw it they put me on a gurney and hooked an oxygen supply to me. I spent the next 8 days in FMH....chewed on my lungs pretty good.

Can they call folks into session tonight to pay respects or do they need to stick with the time set for their next session?

They can call a special session or extend it I guess. They need to elect a new speaker at some point because I can't see the position being unfilled until January.
