I have a question for the Garand Gurus here. Which cleaning supplies are supposed to go into the buttstock? Long oiler, short oiler, combination tool, cleaning rods, etc. are all available but obviously won't all fit.
The CMP website offered only limited information (unless I missed it).

I am specifically interested in the pre-war, wartime and post-war configurations. What did our GIs actually carry in their rifles?
Thanks in advance for your responses.

They carried almost anything you could imagine, not necessarily Government issue. There have been some threads on the CMP Forum of items that have been found in the butts. As far as what is officially supposed to be there that would vary by time period and the official Manual of the period should be your guide.
