It may have been nickeled "back in the day" by a GI, when they sold these literally by the barrel-full.
Not sure what you can do to save it but my hat's off to you for trying for it.

I can get it bead blasted or put in an acid bath to remove the nickle finish. Either way, it's not going to be cheap. However, once it is reblued I will regain more than I will invest in saving it.

    Here's an ... interesting ... one.
Appears to be a Star M clone in .45 ACP
At first I thought it might be a Khyber Pass special, but it's not even up to those standards.

The frame is 4 pieces, probably cast, and then welded together (heavy as heck).
Same with slide, the lower front housing where the recoil plug resides is a separate piece, pinned and welded.

Barrel and slide don't have locking lugs - note the slide stop pin is bent from the pounding of the barrel link.
Recoil guide "ears" are bent and squished but didn't get a good shot of those.

Yes... amazingly enough some crazy SOB actually FIRED this (probably a fair amount).

The bore is special too, almost like polygonal rifling, I swear the barrel looked cast too, all sorts of voids along the bore.

The mag well is far out of spec so a spacer was welded to the back of the GI mag.

The closer I looked the more "special" things I found ... and no I didn't buy it.

Probably from one of the "stans" over in Asia. Wikipedia has this image of a crudely made TT variant from Pakistan which is what this reminds me of.

That's fascinating, especially considering it was probably made in a hut with nothing but hand tools in a "shop" that doesn't even have a drill press.

And I thought I was nervous firing my first 1911 build, I can't imagine the pucker you would feel touching that thing off.
