Everything I have read about the flash hiders for the M1 is, they do nothing, except possibly reduce accuracy.

    But they look cool. :D

Somebody did a comparison relatively recently maybe the GCA using the m2 flash hider with 173 gr ball ammo if I recall correctly.
It was more than one rifle selected and a few exhibited better groups during the testing.
More than likely it was just better stock or handguard fit or some other circumstance which had an additive effect. I cant remember the exact conclusions but it was an interesting read at the time.

They make a pretty good tuning fork also.
As far as accuracy goes this rifle is very good without the scope. It will be interesting to see how much better or worse it becomes once I find a scope mount.

    Anytime

I dont think a scope will make the rifle anymore accurate but it may make the target appear larger.

So many very nice Garands!

No "Garand Porn" thread would be complete without a pic of our friend Mooseman shooting an M1.

We miss you every day, Buck!

    :)

With this thread in mind I got to looking thru pics taken at past Hooligan shoots. Trust me - there are thousands of them...

Here are a few pics from the Hooligan archives of 4570 shooting Garands back in 2013. Since he's my friend, I gotta roast him:

Hey 4570! It's a little harder to get back up from that prone position than it used to be - right? Maybe that's why we're both shooting a lot more BP...

    :lol2:

This M1 was ordered as a HRA service grade. What I received was a new HRA M1 in a replacement stock. Replacement stock had to go and I installed a stock worthy of a new M1.

Took a chance and ordered a Springfield field grade from the CMP. They sent me a beautiful 1944 M1 with lots of early parts including a GI stock, uncut operating rod, and 44 dated barrel.

    I think they’re all gorgeous.

    Yes they are.

"There are many like it, but this one is mine."

I confess when I got my first Garand I dragged it everywhere around the house so I could admire it. I laid it on the floor next to me while watching TV. I leaned it against the wall in the bathroom ...
